I can't believe how much people in this coountry (USA) are bitching. I was born in a poor country before I came here. All people do in the US is whine about politics, gas etc this and that...and they have no idea that people in other countries will NEVER get to drive a car in their entire life, not to mention some are starving to death, AIDS etc.
Grow the fuck up!
If it's too expensive, don't buy it!

According to BMWUSA website, the base MSRP for 2008 e92 335i is $40,800
and for 2008 e90 335i $38,900. I don't see any price change from last year.

I agree though. 47k is alot.
Boo fiscal policy. The government's fiscal policy is like a hammer whenever it tries to fix the economy, it always jacks things upon worse than they were before.

Hooray monetary policy! The Fed usually does a better job than gov't spending, etc.

And loaf of bread and milk cost $0.20 in that country, so crazy Americans (biggest corn exporters) pay so much for bread... It is all relative, and living in a 3rd world country you usually don't care about the BMW...

If you are buying a 335i just to race you are an idiot. There are faster cars for less money... the luxury and rideability (and brand) are the main selling points of the 335i

My 2007 335i Sedan, Step, Sport, Premium, CA, Heated Seats, Metal Paint had a sticker of $46K and I got it for just under $44K in Nov of 2006. I could have gotten the same thing via ED for $41K including $1K for the trip, but i decided I wanted it then!

and yes I do track it.

Why would I want to pay 47K for a 335i especially since it seems that the quality has gone down and BMW is beginning to think about it's bottom line rather than it's customers. I just don't get it, I was planning to buy one next spring but after configuring one at bmwusa I'm starting to have second thoughts....

Does anyone agree here? I know it costs to play but seriously this is crazy....

FYI - the way I configured it was a 335i sedan, with Sports, Premium, Cold Weather, CA, and Auto.

$46K for my 08 335xi with sport, step, and premium=best $46K I ever spent.

Yes, the 3-series is in general considered entry-level, but the 335 is a different animal from the lesser 3's. Go drive one, and I don't think you'll feel it is entry-level. I actually went into the dealership ready to buy a 535 and left there with the 335. Much better driving feel with an equal amount of luxury, just not quite as much space.

BMW doesn't have a "premium" division, like Nissan's Infiniti or Toyota's Lexus. If they did, the basic 325s and 328s would be more comparable to loaded Altimas or Camrys and the 335 would be more like a G35 or ES350. Maybe that's a stretch, but you get my point.

I don't think you can compare an Altima to a G35 or a Camry to an ES350, though they share a lot of parts. In the same way, you cannot compare a 328 to a 335.

The real "entry-level" car is the 328, and you can get one in the mid 30K range. Definitely a great car, and I would say still a great deal better than comparable sedans in that price range. Check out http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...300-sport.html. The other cars in this comparison consider the 335 their competition, but it's more appropriately the 328. Yes, you can get more gizmos as standard on the other cars, but you will never replicate the feel of a BMW with a bunch of digital 1's and 0's. I never believed this until I bought mine.

Also, consider that the 335 is very comparable to the last generation 5 series in dimensions, luxury, and technology. From a power standpoint the 335 is far ahead (a 335 with any tune will outrun the last generation M5).

Not sure what you mean about the quality going "down". Seems to me that it has steadily improved, but I'm not JD Power.

When you compare the 335 to other cars in the mid $40K range, I think you'll find that it's appropriately priced, and well worth the money. I say go for it this spring. Then you can PM me with words of thanks!

Crazy or not, your paying for the name, the reputation, and blah blah blah.....I dont think its too much and I mean its BMW......its Mercedes....its Audi, Porsche.......its Ferrari.....its Bentley.............its just the way it is man, there are different clients in different markets for different things that are able and willing to pay at the given prices (equilibrium).

Be happy that BMW doesnt compensate for the Euro to Dollar exchange rates. Have you ever asked people outside of the USA what a BMW costs? It can cost almost twice as much as it would in the USA. So poor quality or whatever you want to pin to it. BMW's namesake was never really geared towards readily available cars whose price was easily accepted by the general public. Yes, you could argue that that reputation was a thing of the past back when they still had extremely well made vehicles. And yes, you could argue what the point of the 2002 was. However, nothing changes the fact that BMW was not meant to be a cheap auto manufacturer with great low prices, so the advent of the 3 series and now the 1 series has somewhat allowed the company to slightly delve into the entry level and some what sub premium markets, but thats about it.

So yes, 47k for a 335i sounds ok, but 55k sounds great, even better! Becasue then you know its been loaded up with the much needed options (most of which should come standard anyway, like power seats and leather). Like anything else, either create a plan to somehow obtain what you want, or just accept defeat and leave it be until you can obtain it. So if 47k for a 335i is too much for someone at this point, then theres nothing wrong with accepting that and just saving up for a little while longer and making do with whatever you can afford. I personally think that despite its minor electrical issues, the 335i is a great car and is worth every penny. I mean hell in comparison to similar cars in the price range, your getting an extremely tunable car, with great performance specs out of the box, with a great reputation, stunning looks, great creature comforts, and much more for under 60K (options and taxes included)
+1

I meant to say my *home* country...Thailand. Which is a 3rd world country. To put it in perspective, you can get a nice 2 bedroom condo for the same price of a new 335i.
