Now I can click off 2:23-2:24 all day at 8-9/10ths and enjoy the car in its element stress free. If I wad that car it hurts me financially too much. Driving hard is what my little honda is for. If I wad it I walk away from it I might go the E36 route here in the near future. |

Not an RS. A real factory built gt3 spec cup car.
Also that 911 cup driver may have been holding back or just a bad driver. Or had just wayyyyy to much aero setup. On track, A cup car will be significantly faster than a street GT3 RS. But a bit slower than a real factory race gt3 rsr. A new 991 cup laps Sebring in about 2:05. I could see a high hp street car pull on a gt3. But forget it after a corner. I've had that exact experience coming up on say a zr1/z06 on t16. Loose my t16 super fast exit because he was blocking. Watch him out drag me to T17 just so I can out brake into t17 entry and pass him coming out of t17. That gt3 cup fixed aero downforce really slows you down at very high speeds. FYI. 135mph in the bend. (That's the downforce really paying off) 160mph back straight if I hit T16 perfect, but usually 158. 72mph T17 bridge bounce and just dominate at 115mph exit T17 (2nd bridge). T17 is good passing but you have to have really big ones to bounce thru it. I actually softened my suspension up just for that one turn! I also spent 10 laps against a NASCAR back and forth once. Most frustrating thing ever. He was so fast on the straights and just blowing it and blocking every single corner. Also a p cup car is about 1000lbs lighter than a street M3/M4. That's 4 fat guys worth of difference. |

Try chump with the E36(non m). That would be fun. I've used a 944 and a neon!
Chump car is so much fun at Sebring. Much slower but so much fun. I think I was only turning 2:45 laps. I can't believe you got a full weight m3 around the track in under 2:20. That is exceptionally impressive. What was your full setup? What did you back it back down to now? |

Went to Sebring last month with my E90. Love, love, love that place. 2nd visit managed a 2:31.
Haven't experienced an F80 M3/M4 @ Sebring, but have run my car and a stock M4 back to back on track elsewhere. With the adaptive dampers set correctly in the M4 for turns 1 & 17 (my KW Clubsports do not like...), and with the notable extra oomph down the many long "straights," sub-2:30 near-stock* is certainly possible. 2:27-2:28 strikes me as attainable. There are just so many places where the extra straight line speed would save time, and I know the adaptive suspension would be superior through the indicated turns where so much time can be gained or lost. I'd love a go around there in a stock M4. I think it's perfectly suited to Sebring. (*PSS would be good for one full hot lap, but I'd want some pads + fluid.)

Oh, and re Homestead --
I think it'd be a much closer story there. My coils like those corners. Ran a 1:42 and I'd expect a stock M4 to be ~1 second either side of that. Extra grunt down the 4 straights would be an asset as always, but that may be offset by the traction disadvantage coming out of a couple of the corners. I'm thinking about the turn 8 hairpin especially. Good luck getting an M4 to hook up in 2nd there. Woohoo...

Homestead turn 8 I have to imagine is terrible with these from engine, high hp turbo cars. The fastest I've ever come out of that turn was in a GTR. Just no traction.
FYI. Just to test, try avoiding the cement patch. (If you're not racing) |

My stock M3 is sub 2:30. I backed the RS down because I don't want to wreck it. |

We had the M4 out at Sebring during a test day (with no intentions of taking it on track, initially). Fun car indeed until the brakes just went away. Stock ZCP on RE71 @ 2:25.98 ET...so its about ~12 +/- secs off the pace of a well driven 3.6 996 Cup, and ~18+ secs off a 997.2 Cup (3.8L).

I was wrong. I checked my logs for the GT3 Cup and T7 was inconsistent at 43~45 mpg and 1.2G to 1.3G. Most times at 43.
In the M3 at T7 was 40 mph at 1.1g fairly consistent. [Are you saying your vmin in T7 with a 996 Cup is 56/57 mph? If so, I'd love to know that trick.[/QUOTE] |

My RS 991 is 2:17 on MPSC2's and below 2:14 on slicks at Sebring. M3 with my JB4 and 255/295 MPSS I would guess could go 2:24. I'll prob give it a go in winter.

Quicker if they didn't add that inside curbing a few years ago. I think they got sick of filling the big hole with dirt. LOL. |

Yeah I remember that change on T7. Threw me off the first few times around the corner.
Also got a little thrown off when they extended the pit out wall. Shouldn't even register visually because that is not where I'm looking, but somehow it did for me. Funny how that works when you know a track real well, and they go off and move something. Like a tree. (VIR) I just realized I'm sounding old and cranky. |
