I spoke to my city BMW Dealer (in Greece), he checked my car VIN and I do have to go there for repair. ....
One more thing: If you read carefully the bulletin from BMW, you will see that for ALL cars included in the bulletin list, the chain tensioner needs to be changed, no matter how many km's they have! If the cars have up to 75K KM, only the tensioner will be changed, mandatory. If the cars have more than 75K KM, then according to specific measurements by the BMW technicians, the upper and/or the lower timing chain will also have to be changed! Finally, the extra cost of engine oil and radiator antifreeze fluid, will be also covered by BMW. |

Thanks for the info, buddy, I'll let you know how it goes. BTW, how's the car with the PPK? I've got a 320d, too, and it could use more power when overtaking at higher speeds especially.

So I went to my local BMW dealership and told them about the problem and the service bulletin about you, topmar, that you had it done for free. He seemed not to know about the service bulletin and told me that we can try asking BMW if they want to do a goodwill repair... Now the problem is that the car must have a full service record by authorized BMW service which is not what our car has as we do the service ourself. So yeah, time to find money for the whole repair I guess...

N47 broken chain (320d)
Hi all,
My first post so apologies if this post has a place elsewhere and not in 'general'. I've always wanted a BMW, so in February 2015, having saved up for almost a year, I decided to buy a second hand 57 plate 320d (with N47 engine). On Saturday evening it broke down. I rang my mechanic friend who quickly established it was a broken chain and said I may have potentially done more damage (to the pistons etc). As you can imagine I was horrified! I rang BMW who were initially very accommodating, suggested I have the car towed for 'quality enhancement' check. So I took it in this morning, only for the guy at the service desk to suggest it may be due to lack of oil! My next service was due in 4.5k miles, nor did the car send any 'oil check' warnings. The last two services were at independent garages (non BMW). The car has only done 103k. Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so what was the outcome. Also, if BMW decide not to repair under recall what options do I have? Thanks in advance Z |

Greetings, all. I am looking to purchase a 318d on a 57 plate. BMW have stated that the car in question is down for a QE but due to not owning the car, they were quite vague with their answers. If the car in question requires work, be it all concerned with the timing issue, is this
Likely to be free of charge? Thanks in advance, Lips. |

I did the QE and now I have the noise
Hello all,
I can see that no one posted since a while, but I do hope someone can help me. So, I have 118d 2007 with 180tk. I have full history service with BMW. 2 months ago, i heard about this recall (QE) and I decided to go for it although I had no noise what so ever. They checked my car and changed only the tensioner. However, after the QE, my timing chain started to rattle. I went back there and they did the test again, they said that the timing chain is not long. Therefore, they won't change it. I tried to call BMW many times and they rejected to offer a good will. And i left with a rattling timing chain. Do you have any advices? I thought about going to a lawyer, but I don't know if it will really help. Thank you |

E90 N47 recall
My car 2007 E90 N47 went in today for a complete engine rebuild after the BMW agents did a check and said they would need it for about 3 days
Was thinking if they do a comlete software check after rebuild? Last edited by Unofon; 11-05-2015 at 04:45 AM.. Reason: spelling |

Hey everyone,
I'm looking to buy a BMW 520 and I'm looking for advice on what I should look out for issues, problems etc. I'm looking for 08 09. Was thinking of the M-Sport or what model is the most comfortable to drive. All advice will be welcomed.* Thank you |

No! Definitely not. The problem is only applicable to the 4 cylinder 2.0 litre diesel engines code named N47. The problem was supposedly solved after March 2011.

Timing chain failure N47
Bought 1 series 118D 2007 with 90k on clock three years ago.
After one year timing chain failed! Bill of £1700 to fix. BMW were not interested. They're completely arrogant regarding poorly designed chain set up. As of today I'll be going to BMW dealer for chat |
