From our more experienced members: if you could give only one piece of advice to the young guns out there, regarding anything (relationships, finances, friends, etc.), what would it be?

Thank ya thank ya.
Relationships-fuck everyone you can get away with fucking, that's actually worth fucking. Be real with yourself and others and you can connect with many people on so many different, awesome and strange levels.
Also, deny, deny, deny, don't ever admit to your Significant other that you cheated, shit will never be the same, and it only hurts. I'd rather live with being a deceitful asshole than hurt someone. take it to the grave.
Money - Root of all evil, but money=freedom, BMW's, hot vapid chicks, really nice dinners, nice vacations, nice house. You don't need it to be happy but it certainly doesn't hurt.
friends/people-I'd rather have a few really good friends than a bunch of friendly acquaintances. Treat people how you want to be treated, be kind and real to people. Don't be a dick unless the situation warrants it. Violence is useless and stupid. It is a last resort and should only be used if you're truly in danger.
Life lessons- Don't be afraid to ask for what you want, you'll never know if you don't ask. Drugs, food, art/music, sex are amazing. Be adventurous, try as many different things with different people. You can reach different levels of consciousness and connect with so many different people in so many ways through these mediums. They all have their own language, you can speak to people globally without speaking the same dialect. Pretty amazing if you ask me. It's all about the moment, live it, be present for it.

1. To get what you want, you have to DESERVE what you want. This world isn't "giving". Does the body builder whom works out daily and eats healthy or the overweight person whom sits on the couch all day eating junk food, deserving of a 6 pack?

2. Don't be like most people out there waiting for something to happen to them. Most go to sleep and hope for a better tomorrow. It's like having a puzzle in a box, and every day you are shaking that box, hoping one day, when you shake the box the puzzle will already be put together. The odds of all the puzzle pieces falling in the right place are very slim. If you want a better tomorrow, take the initiative and make the changes.

I'm not old by any means, but I've been through probably more than most people so my only tid bit is, don't live by what if's. Too many people go through life harboring resentment from not trying new things or taking risks. There's also too many people who get bent out of shape or dwell on things, for fucks sake you get one life to live, be happy. The same thing goes with relationships, finance, friends..., surround yourself with people who make you a better you, for instance, I have a woman who likes to bone at 4am before I go to work, and that makes me a better person during the day.

Some people say I'm emotionless or come off like I don't care because I don't really get mad or sad. I feel like I have the power over myself to be reminded that my life is incredible and in far better shape than many people in the world. If shit goes wrong, it's nothing that can't be overcome, if you sit on it, that's when things go south. I feel bad for anyone that allows life events to dictate their own mental state or their own action plans in a negative way, there's so much out there to explore and discover I'll be damned if I sit around and miss out.

Same here, people say i'm ruthless, heartless and cold. I say no, i just don't let other 'human beings' affect my emotions. I'm ALWAYS happy. I control my happiness, i have full 100% control of me, i don't rely on anyone to make me happy. No one can really piss me off.
To piss me off or to offend me you have to be the Jacques Cousteau-The Dali Lama-The Guru-The Almighty great human to be able to impact my mood.

I don't wake up in a bad mood anymore, the last time i had a 'socially bad day' was more than 10yrs ago.
Of course sometimes bad things happen to people.. Such as unexpected death, sickness, emergency, surprise divorce etc. However, i'm not talking about those, i'm talking about social events.

^^^^This. I wasn't going to post here, but this is what I would have posted anyway. Life weaves a strange path and you have to adapt to it. Like everyone, I've made mistakes and had some bad experiences. But they've all brought me to where I am now, which isn't a bad place at all. There are a couple of small things I'd go back and change if given the chance, but nothing that would have altered the path that brought me here.

I will say this; if you're close to your parents and live away from them, make the time to visit often. I didn't and now that Dad's gone I regret not doing that.

Agreed, and this is one of the harsh realities I've been facing ever since I moved from MI to NC. I've always had an incredible relationship with my parents, and they built me into who I am. It sucks because I know my dads health is deteriorating working the assembly line at Chrysler for 20 some odd years on top of being a heavy smoker, so that thought alone doesn't exactly settle well.

I do what I can to Skype with them, text, phone calls, and all that, but it will never replace that feeling of knowing your family is a few miles away.

Not sure if you meant it this way, but I was also going to say to the younger set here, stay in relatively good shape. You don't need to be Mr. Fitness, but keep the weight in check because once you hit 50, it's becomes damn hard to drop excess pounds. And that's about the time you start hearing about people your age dropping from heart attacks.

Life is hard. It's harder if your stupid! Learn from your mistakes, or be doomed to repeat a same cycle of misery.

Seek to understand before you can be understood. Knowledge is power, but also appreciate that others have different experiences and perspectives that shape their knowledge and understanding.

Hard work never hurt anyone, but I have learned I prefer to work smarter.

Regret is a cancer that can never be cured.

Financial wealth = a certain level of freedom, but it should not be all consuming. Make time for the people and things in life that truly matter, because we have very little time to enjoy before we are too old - or worse, too alone.

You are who you hang out with.

The sooner you eliminate deadbeat friends, and surround yourself with good people with ambition and good character, the better off you'll be for it.

Also don't kill anyone.

Don't go to college to study a hobby, go to college to study a trade doing something you are interested in yet will give you an ROI on those tuition fees.

Hmm. I hang out with my wife and I'm happy to do so. But she's pretty cool, so it's ok.

I went to college to get a degree in geology and chemistry. Now I work in IT. Funny how that works. Like I said, life is full of twists and turns.

Nope. It was the dream that killed him. The market for Philosophy professors aren't exactly in 'high" demand.

My word of wisdom:

Never, ever, ever follow your dreams to become a Philosopher or a Fine Artist.
