It really bugs me, my next family hauler will not be a premium gas engine, I only do 12,000 Km a year so it's only costing me what ... circa $300 a year extra for premium but really .. it shjits me to tears. |

cool story bro. no need to be an asshole. man, there's a ton of assholes here isn't there. I watch a news report and ask a freaking question. why the question means I'm an idiot and should berated is beyond me? not everyone knows how this works. and because someone wants to own an M4 means they don't want to ever save money on anything? I'm just made of money? you mean I couldn't have just done a good job of saving in order to get into the car? Jesus Christ. way to make people feel welcome here. someone could have easily just stated that it wouldn't work for the car. you think I don't realize they used a different car for the test? no shit. but the guy in the report even said his car requires 91 and he doesn't use that. so why this is such a dumb thread and dumb question is beyond me. why you people even feel the need to comment on this when you have nothing better to say other than how dumb this is is beyond me. super helpful people here.

hahahaha omg you're so funny! sit behind the anonymity of your keyboard doucchebag. there's no way you'd make it this far in life if you acted like this in real life in front of people without getting your ass kicked. so sit behind your keyboard and have fun. it's too bad that the people that get harassed online take it out by taking out innocent people and not the dicks like you.

You asked a question, got an answer, and then asked, "well why should I, the video was good" (essentially) and got offended at the mildly harsh responses. Let me ask you another question: Should I stop at a red light? It says in traffic law that I should, but it would be so much faster if I didn't! Same thing with the minimum 91 RM/2 octane notice on your car behind the gas filler door. It's listed as a minimum, not recommended. Recommended is 93. Just do it.

can't believe a so called car expert believes regular is all you need. then again guys don't forget this is geared towards to the millions who drive normal cars that actually only need 87. i hope people who own more performance orientated cars know to follow manufacturer recommendations...

One simply does not put regular gas in a Motorsport car. I know you're not considering buying an M4 just to keep the RPMs under 3K.

That's not true either. You want to run the lowest octane possible without having knock occurrences. That will get you the most power/fuel mileage. Going under that need will caused pulled timing where you need it most = lower fuel mileage and power. The proper answer is to use the octane needed for the specific application. |

This is the dumbest thing I've read... Urea is for diesels. OP, just get the 87 octane, run in and get a bottle of NOS energy drink, and top off the tank. I heard Full Throttle works too, but not unless you're wide-open-throttle the whole time.

Id be curious to see what the actual difference is.
2 M4s should do some side by side runs, first both cars run 91, then one car runs 87, then other car runs 87.

In the end it's like going to a high end restaurant and buying the cheapest draft beer (not because you like it) so you can same a couple of dollars. If the high end restaurant price is too high, just don't go. If you bought a new M3 in 2013 (latest year they have), kept it for 5 years and then sold it Edmunds estimates this will cost you about $80k. Basically about $1300 a month. Figuring out a way to make this $1280 a month isn't going to matter. http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/m3/2013/s...8/cost-to-own/

In short: no, the lowest octane that does not produce audible knock is not the correct one for your car. The correct octane for your car is the one the engineers who designed the engine and control systems tell you to use. I poked around a bit and did not find any such test. I'd be interested in the results too. |
