M9 o.o
No one is going to say anything about M7 or we're just skipping 7 (and 8 but I expected this)

Maybach was made for someone to be chauffeured around in, this car seems to have a lot less rear room than a Maybach. And the S class coupe, seems to be a good amount smaller (sportier) than what this car will be. They seem to be creating a gran coupe in a space that doesn't need one. |

Although a BMW coupe would normally wear an ?even number? designation, management does not want to revive the little-loved 8 Series and does not own the rights to 10 Series, so 9 Series is the model?s most likely name.
Wait wait wait..."Little-loved 8 Series?" How can you slam the 8-series. I still love those. Just need more garage space before I find one to play with. |

Maybe with the addition of a 9 series the 3er & 5er will get slightly smaller? That's unprobable but with the new carbon core to cut pounds that would amount to some serious desire IMO.

I am not saying I wouldn't want one, I would take this over the 7. But that was part of my point, it will just cannibalize the 7 sales. I know they are calling it a coupe, but there is nothing really coupe about it. It's a 4 door sedan, that looks "coupier" than the 7. I am sure some people drive themselves in a maybach, but I highly doubt it's the majority. And if I am getting chauffeured around, I don't see why I would choose the car with less rear room and seating over the maybach. I don't believe this car was meant to compete with the maybach, I think they are trying to create a new segment that in my mind isn't really needed. A 2 door 9 series that has ultra luxury/comfort and can turn into a beast in sport mode, makes much more sense to me. |

1825-35; < French coupé (in defs. 1 and 2 short for carrosse coupé cut (i.e., shortened) coach), past participle of couper to cut off, verbal derivative of coup coup1; cf. cope1 Daimler or Mercedes-Benz coined the modern day term four-door coupe for the first generation CLS-Class. It means loosely to "cut" which is referred to as the lower roofline on the CLS, Gran Coupe', A7 and the VW CC. |

A 9 series four door version of a coupe.
Jesus tap-dancing christ, the nomenclature. Who cares though, especially if they make an M version.

There may be some overlap between the two but probably not much. The 9 Series will be built, marketed and priced well above the 7 Series. So don't expect a 740i intender to purchase one. The 9 Series is a completely different demographic and psychographic group from 7 Series prospects/owners. |

The 6 is in an odd place, they don't treat it like a flagship series, instead it is always the last one to get updated. And with the exception of looks, it doesn't do/have much more than the 5 or 4. |

It utterly baffles me how BMW wont call it the 8 series, build a coupe, and then a GC. It would revive the 8 series and would make more sense than a 9 series.
Or better yet, stop building heavy, soft yachts for the road and concentrate on maybe reviving the M1, seems like BMW wants to be more like Mercedes and Mercedes more like BMW.
