Love it. 100hp/L in the 90s, similar power to current 3er and 1M.... in the 90s.

Great video!

Something about the e36 / e39 / e38 being the high water mark, for classic BMW model lines.
Just something about those cars that I really LOVE and CRAVE!!

The most underrated M3 of all time. This was the car that made me fell in love with the M brand. I drove one when I was 16 for the first time in 1998. It's leagues better than the E30 but doesn't get the credit it deserves.

I believe car and driver dubbed it the best handling car of the 90s.
Yeah totally agree on the engine, but the US S50/52 has proven to be a very solid durable motor in its own right. LW would be nice, but in just 5 more years we can start importing euro M3's with the proper motor.

Ha that was quick, the E30 vid was publiced a few days ago and was hoping for an E36 version.

Nice to see the special mention the SMG.

When they show the 3.0 specs in the beginning of the vid, what is shown is the 3.2 engine.

I love the E36, always have. Dated? No way. Old yes, but dated, no. To me the perfect blend between 80's boxy and 00's roundness.

I'll never part with mine.

Took this picture of my car the other day. Walked out of the shopping center and thought - damn, not bad for going on 20 years old. Drives and looks like new.

Yes I think that 3.2 l euro engine was truly the first great racing m engine with super high rev approach hitting 8k rpms.

Would have loved to have one.

Interesting I didn't know smg 1 beat ferrari to the market and years later the e92 m3 beat ferrari with dct. Vw I believe was the first but was a fuel economy driven implementatiin

I have yet to take mine to the track. But what I have heard, they are amazing stock let alone having a pss9 kit and a brake up grade.

I really want to add a vert after I get the F80. They are so cheap and it would make an awesome cruiser. Especially if I end up moving closer to the beach. I'd want either Alpine White or Estoril Blue

Wouldn't even mind if it was an auto tragic

IMO---never really cared for it. The E30 M3 was my ultimate dream car when i was a kid....when i saw the E36 M3 for the first time it just looked 'off' and still looks off.....narrow, robotic, and unimaginative. Just doesn't have any personality...

Nice!

These things keep growing on me; really like the boxy old school stance. Almost pulled the trigger on a low mileage for ~$18k...but went with the e46 instead. Prices seem to be inching upward, I should grab one while I can.

But the E36 has my undying love, it was my first BMW and brought me into the world of track driving. I'd love to own one again just for the memories, and for how accessible the performance envelope is compared to modern M cars. Make it Avus, Estoril or Dakkar for me.

You can get a GOOD one for much less than that. And yes, now is the time to grab one. I've seen some really good deals lately that I would have jumped on had I not purchased my Techno coupe already.

The mileage on these cars don't really matter that much, it's way more important to have good maintenance

S38B38 (euro M5 motor) was released a few years before IIRC. US M5 buyers also got screwed though, only being able to get the mildly detuned S38B36.
