And seeing as though I haven't had to to speak German since I studied it (nearly 30 years ago now), I have to say my English is better than my German.

Haha, ihr macht mich fertig!

(You guys crack me up!)

jcoo085 is right though. I think seller doesn't want to accept the check, because longtran has all the options. He wants longtran to pay in other ways.

That's basically it. Just a slight correction.

I have no idea either what 'mier' means, but it doesn't seem central to the sentence. And genommen is spelt wrong. That's the dutch spelling.

Not really. The bank destroyed the cheque, which means it wasn't cashed. And the guy probably hasn't sent the goods. So no one has really lost here. Nevertheless, I would put a stop on the cheque and arrange alternative forms of payment with the seller. Credit card through PayPal?

NOOOOOO! If it's a payment outside of an eBay auction, Paypal will do NOTHING to help you get your money back if the transaction goes sour.

If I were you, I'd forget the whole thing. Tell the seller nevermind. Whatever it is you bought, it seems like it's more trouble than it's worth. International transactions always make me nervous. Of course, domestic eBay transactions make me nervous nowadays, too.

Just a thought.

Oh. I didn't realise that. I've just heard it mentioned a few times and I figured that if the goods didn't turn up then the payment could be reversed with the credit card company.

Oh well, thanks for the info.

Ha ha yeah that's ok. USUALLY, you could just call up the issuing CC company and tell them you didn't authorize the transaction and you want it stopped, but Paypal isn't like that...they're really pretty bad.

I know because I have first hand info with this. Paypal won't even help you get the seller's name/contact information. We tried to file a report with the police, and the only thing we could give them is the person's email address. We had nothing else to go by. We tried to get a subponea against paypal to release the info, but couldn't do it.

That's why from now on I want nothing to do with either paypal or ebay. Two pretty bad setups if you ask me.

i hate dealing with collection items, they take fooooorrreeeevveerrrr. dealing with overseas banks in transactions other than wire transfers are a pain in the ass. but for $35 a wire transfer it's probably not worth it.

"Mier" is also spelled wrong, should be "mir" which means "me".

That's what I mean. Genomen is Dutch, and genommen is German.

Now it makes sense. I was thinking it could have been something along those lines but my brain wasn't in the right gear.

Yup. You will need at least the SWIFT code for his bank and branch and/or the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) for his account.

As an alternative, you could purchase an international bank draft. This is similar to a bank cheque, but payable overseas. Of course, this will take much longer than a funds transfer.
