Yeah, occassionally the length block (don't know a better term) will fall off the clippers if you push it in a weird way or something.. Always makes for hilarious comments at work the next day..

ya seriously...5+% was silly...

you could actually pull money from a credit card, transfer to a 0% card, park it at an online bank and make money

why did it stop counting my posts in here

It's all about making conscientious decisions. If you really want to save money, everytime you make a purchase just think about whether you really need it or not. If it's an impulse buy, think it over for at least 3 days then buy it. You may find yourself changing your mind later.

Taking a good look at your expenditures will help you find out what was a necessity and what wasn't. Food really does add up, but there's both expensive and cheap food, and you don't always need the very best.

It's good that you can still get a CD this high, especially with the Fed cutting rates and such. Seeing as how another cut is in the near future, if you want to lock in a CD at that rate, I'd say do it ASAP. E-Trade does offer a Savings account with a 4.1% APY but that's been dropping since December, where it was 5.05%, but that may be another option for you as well.

http://www.hsbcdirect.com/1/2/1/defa...BUS_CSM0000056

No fees, No BS. Only a dollar to start up, etc.. It was around 5.25% a couple months ago and was for a solid year or so..

oh, one more thing that I personally have participated in. Sometimes a bank will offer you $25 to $75 dollars to open an account with them. Well, knowing me, I jump right at the oppotunity and open an account with them with a minimum of $100. You have to be carefull and read the fine prints and ask the right questions concerning minimum without penalty and other important questions.

I done this 2 times now and got myself $75 and $75. Not a lot but every little amount counts.

umm stop hanging around e90post so dont blow money on mods

whether i make 30k or 100k i end up spending 100% of it + all my other savings and investment, ridiculous.

i put a separate savings account that i wont tap into, not a CD, but thought about it. CD is good option tho, idk why i didnt do it haha

again...

considering the liquidability of high yield online savings accounts....CDs are lame IMO...

you are on the right track my young friend...it is indeed possible. Take advantage of the credit union while you work for them. My credit union gives me 3.9%. Many people have great suggestions but no one said anything about GF, it will be very hard to follow this path religiously when you have a gf.

I just transfered savings over to Etrade, 4.1% right now. Best I have been able to find. CD's from my banks aren't even close that.

For saving at a stable rate I like money market accounts, last year I had a CD at 5.4% and my MM account was 5.2%. The best part about the MM vs. the CD was I could keep adding money to the MM account so the interest was compounded on a larger amount therefore giving me more reinvested dividends each month. It makes more sense to make 5.2% on $100,000 in a MM rather than 5.4% on $10,000 in a CD. Its a good place to save cash for a home or places where it will be needed in the short term. For long term savings look elsewhere because for long term you want growth.

Next thing to do to save money is automate as much as possible. Automate all your bills and automatically put money away into retirement accounts. Therefore you get accustomed to having a certain amount and won't spend it.
