I agree with sakhirm4, but also, I think one of the main reasons of the sales decrease is due to the fact that BMW (as well as many other manufactures) produced more vehicles than could be sold. BMW currently has a surplus of inventory and many buyers do not see and urgency to purchase since the market is saturated with inventory. It's a reflection of current economy, look at apple stats as well.

No electronics, no engine management, no technology, no nav, etc., etc. It cost me $11,000 which is equivalent to $45,000 today. I know some people jump on the reliability band wagon, but I haven't had that issue. Since that first 1977 320i, I have owned noting but BMWs - 18 of them - and have never had a reliability issue. Call me a badge whore or a fanboy, but I think you, sir, are being very unfair to BMW.
He's just being bitter and having a case of rosy retrospection. Nothing can possibly be better than his E90 328i, especially an F30 with a lowly four banger.

BMW X sales will come under more pressure with the Jaguar F Pace. Sadly I think BMW market share will fall over the next couple of years due to lack of imagination in design. Just too much quality product coming on stream from competitors

Possibly, but Jaguar has been struggling to take much market share from the Germans so I doubt it.

They have similar issues Caddie is facing.

Promising, but that's just for the UK market. Wonder how it'll do in the US. Pretty well I'd imagine since we buy any crossover like crazy.

At least I hope Jag takes off in the US. They build some good looking cars, it's the reliability that keeps buyers away.

That article is specifically focusing on the UK market, is there any surprise that there would be a demand for Jaguar in the UK? That article only shows the F-Pace's ability to sell but you have to consider, what was Jaguar's initial manufacturer numbers? That article is in no way indicative of Jaguar being able to come in and take market share away from the Germans, because the truth is while they make some cars that are exciting some people, they're in the same boat as Cadillac. Years of neglect damaged both brands. It's going to be years before we can all honestly say that they're both a threat to what the Germans are providing.

Mercedes sells a lot of CLAs ( > 3000), G + GL ( > 2000).
BMW has 2 series, but not with 4 doors ( < 1000) and no X7 yet.
With a simple sum we can see from where is the 4000 vehicles' difference

A complete new X3 will be released soon. Followed by the X4.
Audi is preparing a new Q5.
I don't see F Pace doing better than XE against the Germans

Nope, Mercedes posted an increase, and out sold BMW by over 6,000 units in January. I guess the storm didn't affect them

But I guess you're right, for $50k you could instead get an Audi A4, Cadillac ATS 2.0T, or a C300 oh shit wait....

So I guess instead of all of those cars with 4 cylinders, you could save money and get a Lexus IS250 with a V6 engine which is the slowest car in the class and gets the worst gas mileage...that's probably why Lexus finally started offering an IS200t, but what do I know?

Besides, I'm sure the price increases are keeping up with inflation...prices go up over time.
I think I get now what Mik821 was saying...its really from his perspective "value" not quality. One argument is that with the economy and wages increasing slightly the price increases all car manufacturers have made does not correlate to most people's buying power...this aligns the PEW research done...http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank...d-for-decades/

The Jaguar F-Pace is anticipated. That's not news and hardly an indication that it's going to do anything, if at all, to vehicles like the X3, GLC, Q5, Macan and now the NX. The Cadillac ATS was in a similar position and was positioned a lot better to perform better in the class with the 3er, C-Class, A4 and look how that turned out.

If there is one company that the Germans should look out for it's Lexus. In the U.S., Lexus outsold Mercedes and their new cars are impressive and definitely a leap forward from their previous offerings. Good luck to Jaguar. It's going to be a while before they do anything significant to the Germans from a sales perspective.

Half of that was the C-Class. I think the C-Class sold 6000 (approx.) to BMW's 3000 (approx.) 3er's in January.

Agree with your assessment regarding Jaguar, specifically with their soon to be released, F-Pace and EX. Those two models along with XF, Jaguar will be making a big push against the BMW and MB, offering performance as well as a long list of standard equipment and options at a very competitive price backed-up by a generous warranty and maintenance program

Well after 11 straight BMWs since 2003, and my strong (almost obsessed) loyalty to the brand, I just sold my 2015 M4 last week and pick up my 2016 Jaguar F-Type Coupe R this Friday! I just feel the BMW brand is loosing focus and the passion which once electrified me--sans the M series.

It's going to decrease because the ultimate service is not ultimate anymore. They will lose some new customers and returning ones also because of this.
