Someone recently pointed out to me that it's quite rare for females (at least, when it comes to comedians) to be funny without being vulgar, i.e., the humor comes from women saying things normally only said by men, rather than true wit. I think it's quite applicable in her case.

She's vulgar in talking and in looks (to me). To think they portrayed her as being able to get any guy in Trainwreck was the absolute funniest thing she's done, as it was beyond wildly absurd.

Perhaps. Like Lisa Lampenelli and Margaret Cho? Although I'm not an avid standup watcher I think Aisha Tyler is pretty damn funny, and she's hot.

Seems like a majority of successful comediennes are lesbians or need to have vulgar acts like guys. Aisha Tyler is feminine and good looking and maybe that's why she's not very successful as a comedienne?

Perhaps. But I do like her standup act. Her acting is good, especially in Archer.

I think she's scripted funny (on Archer), otherwse, she's not funny at all. Maybe she needs a better writer or be more of a comedic pragmatist.

But is it unnecessary? Hmmm if we can't name one beautiful, feminine comedienne then maybe it's the way it is. It's not right, but it sure seems that men don't find pretty women hilarious.

Yes, I agree. I actually really like Aisha and am surprised that a lot of guy friends don't find her pretty. She's single now for the first time since she's become famous. I'd like to see who she dates next.

Example you can be beautiful, funny, and not have to go the easy route of being a gross pig. She does routines that make life situations funny.

I kind of think the rarity of beautiful and funny might be the whole "ugly girl personality" syndrome. Pretty girls don't really need to be funny - they'll get a ton of attention anyway. It's those that don't have looks to rely on that develop more of a personality. Of course, we all have inherent traits, but life experiences can certainly help shape who you are.

I admit that I am not an avid stand-up listener/viewer. Without getting all ranty, I will say that this has a lot to do with what sells - and with what sells to men. Biorin is, in my opinion, on to something, but look at the list above. How many of these men are "hot". ( Mywifes335 , I think you came out earlier in this thread, so feel free to weigh in on that one.). Anyway, interesting how we all make these distinctions and it's a big deal with the female comedians and not the male ones. Physically, Amy Schumer is Louis CK - not Louie Armstrong fat, but definitely overweight. I guess he's funny, but I've never heard any one say he needs to slim down or blow up and get huge. My 2 cents.
