Ain't that the truth though about that shitty Honda paint. I have owned many. My GF had a 2010 Mazda 3 Touring with the bigger 2.5L and you never felt like you needed power but it's no sports car. I still own my pristine 98' GSR though

I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for some 8th gen Honda Civic Si as well. I guess with winter coming, the selection is not as great currently...they also all seem to have very high miles, so I'm going to keep on searching.

Thats good to hear! I guess my BMW has scared me away from higher mileage cars. So would you say a Civic Si, if maintained properly, with around 90k to 130k miles should last me a long time?

I put 40k on my civic in 2 years. 11 years later it just cracked 120k and the only thing i replaced were a few bushings and the timing chain. It's hard to say but my car i know for sure will make it past 200k miles. If you do get a higher mileage car just make sure the wear and tear items get replaced and your golden. I'm thinking about picking up another si to pay down some bills as well.

Sounds great thanks! I think I will wait a bit until I have some more money to spare then. I've got some maintenance/mods to do to the Miata first, and then going to slowly start saving up a bit of a down payment for the Si. I'm going to research this more in depth, but what kind of costs am I looking at for wear and tear items?

1000 bucks. and you shouldn't be paying no more than 12k for an 08. i'd even shoot for an 06 er for 10k maybe even 9k. I may pull the trigger on a 06er with 60k for 11000.

Wow where did you find one with such low miles? Thats amazing! All the ones I've seen so far have 90k+ miles, and they're asking $8k+.

Haha. I would say no. The Honda cars aren't any more reliable than the others. And with the high revving valvetrain?

If you want a car that is reliable and low maint as a DD for just basic transport then look at the Toyota Corrolla

that 1.8 engine you can beat all day long with a stick and it will keep on going

Its got a timing chain vs belt so maint is a lot less and people regularly go 300k without significant issues on these cars

Change the oil and replace brakes......flush coolant every couple years and brake fluid

From what I've read, Hondas seem to be one of the most reliable car brands available. I would look into a Toyota Corolla, but that car is way too bland for me...I want something that'll still be fun to drive daily and look less....bland.

The only honda I ever had paint issues with was the first gen type r. But they had thinner paint from the factory. But I haven't owned any honda newer than a 97 so maybe things have changed.

My 98' GSR currently has just over 200k and it has driven pretty hard every day of it's life. My daughters 95' Accord EX V-6 has 229,000 miles on it. They both have been meticulously maintained of course. My GSR just got it's second timing belt and water pump change and new engine mounts.

Easy. These things are so reliable and simple. I picked up a car with 140k on it and had it out on track a week and half later, all I did was change brake fluid and an oil change.

I recommend NOT following the factory oil change schedule with the maintenance minder. (just like following the BMW recommended oil changes is a bad idea) I do oil changes with full synthetic every 6000 km. Letting the oil level get low will wear out the timing chain. That is one repair you don't want. If oil level is kept at the proper level, the chain should never require replacement.

Every single 8th gen Civic has a paint problem, cracking of the paint on the hood and top of front fenders, and peeling of the clearcoat on the roof. There is an extended warranty from Honda on it. My 2010 is getting its roof repainted in a couple weeks.

The earlier cars (2006-2008) also had an issue with 3rd gear grinding, or popping out of gear. Fix is to replace the 3rd syncro. If you roadtest one, try and rev it right up in third gear and see if it goes in nicely.

OP, just drive the BMW you have. Why in the hell would you buy another cheap, unrefined Japanese car, when you have a perfectly good BMW? I drive my '06 325i 160 miles a day, hammer the crap out of it, and have been doing so going on 10 years now. Adding another car as a daily driver will just add purchase cost, maintenance cost, and insurance cost for a 2nd car, when you can spend that money on maintenance for the 328xi. The E90 with the N52 easily reach 200,000 miles with little trouble. Hitting 300,000 miles is not much more costly or difficult. The E90 IS a daily driver...

I've been running high mileage BMWs for the past 28 years. There is no better car to drive long term in my opinion. None of the expensive parts (engine, trans, diff) break if properly cared for.

I repainted my civic myself before they sent out this recall. I submitted the cost of paint only and they refused to refund me. I owned Hondas ever since I got my drivers license. That civic will be my last.
