Does anyone know if BMW currently does or plans to offer a true SCCA accredited competition licensing program? Does not look like it from this material. Something they may want to consider as both AMG and Porsche do.

what kind of driving experience is required for the various levels, i.e., the M level? I am fairly aggressive, but my 4 laps around the ring (with instructor) is the total extent of my track experience.

Totally different there buddy, and knowing BMW they probably will process the discount for him...
Was still hilarious :

Not the same at all.

What your saying would be the same if he had already done the school. If its just a reservation, I'm sure BMW will do it or else you can just cancel and book it again.

I've done all of them at the performance centers. PM me with any specific questions regarding the following courses:

- Car Control - SC
- M school - SC
- Advanced M school - CA

Haven't done Advanced M at VIR or NC though.

No, they tell you what you're driving, and they're all DCT. If you're a fast walker you can pick what color you drive.

They used to have manuals in the past, and used to run some 1M coupes, but are now all DCT.

I have about 10 track days under my belt this last year, with 2 of them being instructed and have been signed off for solo with a few organizations. I feel like I could use more instruction but don't really want to pay 1200 bucks to learn what I already know about car control and driving.

Would the 1 day M school benefit me or should i use the money toward skip barber or something else?

Wellll...if you are within a return/refund period (30-90 days) there is typically a window of opportunity to negotiate a coupon adjustment for TVs. For travel or events like this, there's probably not so much of a chance. I feel the PO's pain as my wife booked business class airfare on Emirates just before they announced a massive sale. The price difference on 4 tickets was material.

If you've only had two days with an instructor in the right seat, I would venture that you might still have a bit to learn about track driving and car control. How much skidpad time have you had? Have you spent any time lapping tracks in the rain? Many consider a solo badge a sign of readiness. Some schools would consider it the sign of instructors that aren't taking the time to teach. I have 100+ days and still love riding with someone picking at my work.

The BMWCCA chapters offer a great value, though they have varying levels of instructors. Some are admittedly out to get their free seat time, but there are many talented teachers out there that can teach you a ton for a few hundred bucks a day. You also have to determine if you want to get signed off to race or get geeky about driving well. They are different things, and there will be different instructors to get you down those respective paths...at least that's what I've encountered in my 20 years playing this game.

advanced driving should be described as the moral and civil duty to plow through idiot drivers not yielding to faster cars in the fast lane.

Fwiw I'm in nearly the same situation as you. Personally I think I'm going to go to Laguna Seca or Sonoma via Barber or Sim raceway. Driving an open wheel f3 or F2000 and getting a qualified for a novice license for a little more money seems like a better path.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure M days are a real blast. A true SCCA accredited racing school in an open wheel race car just fits my current goals a little better at this time.

My online research shows:

M SCHOOL OFFERINGS:

ONE-DAY M SCHOOL - $1,550 w/ 20% off ($1240.90)

Your day starts with a brief classroom session to cover the basics, then it?s out to the ?flight line,? where M cars sit idling. Instructors will demonstrate each exercise in a car, then it?s your turn. Communicating via walkie-talkie, the instructors will give you tips both during and after sessions. Take a lunch break, then it?s time to head back out and explore the wet skid pad, autocross and, finally, timed laps. End the day with a grin that will last for weeks.

??

TWO-DAY M SCHOOL - $3,995 w/ 20% off ($3196.00)

The first day of this School goes over everything One-Day School covers, plus the second day provides the ability to focus on more of the details. Go through figure 8s on the wet skidpad, and practice things like proper vision, braking points and controlling the car through uneven stretches of tarmac.

In the end, you?ll be able to string together all the lessons learned into a coherent lap around the track. What you?ve learned will carry through to both your own track days and everyday drives.

INCLUDES GROUND TRANSPORTATION,
HOTEL AND MEALS

BMW Driving Experience

I found a bit expensive!

I'd rather do this one if you are planning to go to Europe. I did one in Salzburgring - Austria

I might do one in the Nordschleife next year!

This is a good deal. I have been to the PC West once for 2 day M School and recently for the M Track day event. Everyone should do it.

When I paid for M School more than 1 year ago, I got 20% if paid with a BMW Visa Card. I opened the account for that reason only. Have not used it since. Hopefully the discount will apply if I choose to do Advanced M School in the future.
