Bespoke is the only way to go.

As others have stated, make sure you get two pairs of pants made. I typically get one pleated pair with cuffs and and one flat-front pair without cuffs just to mix it up.

Perhaps it's too base to be worth mention among this bespoke group, but for those whose bank account leans more towards quality tailor vs full on custom, I cannot strongly enough encourage a quality tie and shoes.

How much for a quality custom suit?


I couldn't care less about the quality of my ties, which usually run about $20-50, and I have no idea if that is expensive or not, but good fitting quality shoes are a must! Again, I wear sneakers everyday, which makes good dress shoes all the more important because my feet are not used to being in dress shoes. Get measured and get the right size for your foot type.

Good custom suits are ~$3000 and up (u can pay $30,000 at NiemanMarcus for a suit). Certain cities have excellent custom tailors. I see guys by these custom measured Tom James suits and they look horrible, some guy selling shoes at a department store is now measuring for suits, it's a gamble.
Buy depending on where you live and weather and if your walking a mile to and from the office, you really need to decide what price is worth it.
Brioni makes the best suits IMO, but there are quite a few excellent Italian suits with superior fabrics and the stitching is art as well as super strong.

I was at the Versace owned store years ago, and they said on their suits when they shorten the sleeve, the pull at from the shoulder, because the bottom of the sleeves and buttons are so dialed in, you couldn't duplicate the workmanship if you pulled it from there. It gets crazy. Nice department store suits can be longer wearing, price effective and look impeccable.

I agree with this 100%.

Off the rack I like Canali, Boss, Armani, and Prada but bespoke is the best way to go of you have the money.

My guy is rated as one of the top 100 tailors in the country and can work magic. Even when I buy off the rack I take my suits to him for adjusting and I always bring my jackets with me when I am getting shirts made. I usually do 10-15 shirts every 18-24 months and supplement with any off the rack I see that I happen to like. Nearly all of my shirts are french cuffed and I mix up the collars.


jmg Ties are critical. They will be commented on more than any single part of your wardrobe. Invest in half a dozen, or so, really good ties to get started. Find them on sale and take care of them as you would a small child. Tie the knot as appropriate to the shirt collar.

While we are on this subject I'll say this to everyone, as well:

Get a freaking manicure.

Put your pride aside and do it. Especially if you are a single guy. Nothing jacks up your look more than a hands with jagged nails and NO WOMAN will want you around her soft bits that way.

Other than the two suits I picked up from being tailored yesterday, I've been getting bespoke suits on Saville Row in London, for the past 3 years. They are fairly reasonable, and the entire suit is a mix of the best things you like about suits.

However, the two I just picked up are a sporty take from Joseph Abboud, branded Joe, available at Men's Warehouse, and the cut is modern without being out of style in a year. I'm 6'2" 185lbs and only needed the sleeve/trouser length altered and that's never happened for me, off the shelf. A releative bargain @ $699/ea., and Men's Warehouse always has some deals going. Even if not advertized, ask, and they always come up with something. I had them throw in their best French cuff shirt, a belt and a pocket square with each suit, and still got the 2nd suit at 50%.

Go bespoke. There is a pretty affordable option if you are in California.

I go to Klein, Epstein and Parker and the suits get turned around in 8-12 weeks. They have cheaper fabrics and close out fabrics at $599 a suit. There typical suit starts around $899 and really doesn't get north of $1100. For bespoke this is in the cheaper side of the ball park where a David August suit starts at $5000.

Tons of celebs wear and have worn KEP.... take a look fellas.

Took a look at their website. Wow. Prices are amazing for made to measure/bespoke. Regardless of quality, a made to measure starting at 600.00 is insane and I wish they were in Florida.... OTOH, the manager at the local Men's Warehouse told me that MW is going to start offering made to measure suits soon. Alleged price to be 899.99 and up. I will have to check that out next time I buy.

I will put my 2 cents in. If you have a Suitsupply close to you I highly recommend them. They use Italian mills and are all half canvassed and higher end lines are full canvased. They do on site alterations and their price for quality is very reasonable. I recommend the Lazio fit as I like you are slim. 6ft 175 and the Lazio or Washington are both going to work great with minimal alterations. I currently have 3 suits from them and alway get compliments.

I wear suits 3 times a year. I have 2 suits, both for around $500-600 at Men's Warehouse because it's easy and they look decent enough for me. I wouldn't buy a suit at Kohl's.

There are probably better places to buy suits, but honestly the one by my house knows me so they treat me right.

I only can guess eat less and go to gym more often

Put a lot of work in last year and upped the beater purchases ten fold. Hopefully this year we'll start seeing more beater sportin' cousin fuckers this side of the Triangle.
