We bought a Costco split king adjustable bed.

Best thing we ever did, changed my life.

Most mattresses now are "one-sided," so you can't flip them periodically. That means the mattress will last about half as long. There are still a few on the market that are flippable.

That tag at the end of the mattress (the one you had better not remove if they will haul your ass to jail - that one) lists the contents of the mattress. Natural fibers (like cotton or wool batting) don't break down like man made fibers (foam), so try to get as high as possible natural content.

Try Urban Mattress?

Don't flip, spin. Unless your SO has feet issues you don't want to be laying in. Queue the nasty toes pictures in 3, 2,

Jesus H, go to store, pick something not too firm or too soft and go home.

Done.

I also recommend one of the new online retailers - the 100 day trials are great since it does take a few weeks of sleep to really adjust and decide if you like a mattress.

Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid - started with this one and thought it was a really high quality mattress. If was a bit too soft for my wife (probably a medium firmness based on most reviews), although I really liked it. We returned the mattress after the trial period - customer service was great and it was easy - donated the mattress to salvation army, they came and picked it up, and got a refund a couple days later.

Sapira hybrid by Leesa is our current mattress. Still a hybrid foam/coil spring mattress, but significantly firmer than the Alexander. Again, high quality materials, 10-yr warranty.

The hybrid mattresses are the best of both worlds. You get the alignment and isolation from the foam portion, but the response, bounce and edge support of a spring mattress.

Amazing what a racket the mattress industry is. 1000% markups, fake review websites, deceiving marketing and fake MSRPs.

We ended up with Stearns and Foster's mid range recently and have been happy. Definitely don't pay more than 50% off MSRP for anything.

This is kind of difficult to answer without more details... Weight plays a role, climate (memory foam is much more "hot" than conventional for example) side sleeper / back sleeper, any lower back issues, other ailments - I mean the list goes on... Some prefer firm, some prefer soft - it's one of those things that's going to based on your preferences... Think of the amount of time you actually spend in bed throughout a lifetime... Get one that fits you the best...

Meaning, at least have an idea what you want by trying out mattresses and then go online and do your research... What works for me may not work for you...

I have looked and layed on damn near every mattress worth considering. What I find that works best for me and my wife, are 'combination memory foam and spring'. A straight Memory Foam bed like a Tempur-pedic is just NOT supportive enough for me. And Sleep Number has many reported issues that make sense when you consider the very nature of those beds materials and design (air membranes that inflate and deflate regularly). Here is a quote directly from one of if not the best Bed Reviewers on the web, Sleep Like The Dead about Sleep Number:

So back to my personal choice. Again, I love memory foam! Just not for the entire bed all the way through! I have owned a Sterns and Foster, and of course 2 from the 3 biggest brands: Sealy, Simmons and Serta

The one we bought last is the Serta iComfort Super Pillow Top. From a pricing standpoint, it has been my experience that no one beats out Sears for mattress purchases! Here is ours: http://www.sears.com/serta-icomfort-...3&blockType=G3

I have to agree about the Sleep Number...Don't buy it! We've had ours for about 4 years and it's terrible. Like the article said about the middle of the bed it truly is, it's like nothing's hardly there and you wind up both sinking to the middle.

I went to costco, bought a gel bed that came in a box. It was a gamble but it paid off in the end.

Frankly I think what you'll find in this thread is what you'll find in any mattress conversation anywhere- there are as many options as there are people asking the question.

Online options are trending these days, but are actually pretty good and have great customer service so don't be afraid to try them out.

If shopping a local storefront be sure you understand their return policies and be very very sure to bicker and bargain- they're more like a flea market than your average retail store! Make your own discount!

Look for sales, coupons and discounts everywhere- all the online sources will happily give a referral $50 off, along with fifty buck amazon card or similar to the source, so don't be afraid to ask- it's a win-win for everybody.

And sure, if you've got some time and skill, don't be afraid to build your own! Makes it super easy to fine tune to your exact needs, but you'll be trading time & effort to get the benefits...

If you are spending over $1k on a matress you have successfully been sucked into the better matress scam..

King size memory foam mattresses are available for as little as $500....
they come in soft/medium and firm...
what else could you ask for.

Here come the disgruntled comments of people who got sucked in to fork out $5k plus for shitty overpriced matresses. defending and acting like mattress experts...

Try it 12 MONTHS if you dont love it change to a different one free of charge, thats pretty cool imo. I had bought a memory foam mattress in winter once, was alright so far, then summer came and I sweat myself to death in it. Changed it for a spring one then, absolutely no hassle I just went there and got a brandnew different model free of charge. Always hated IKEA before that.
