Made the trip from Kelowna to Seattle along the Coquihalla. Absolutely stunning and 120km/hr for most of the drive. We made it to Seattle and decided to stay in Bellevue as we are staying Belltown on the return trip. It was a later arrival so we walked the pooches around Bellevue and then grabbed a bite at the Black Bottle. The food and drinks were all absolutely delicious and I'd highly suggest anyone check it out for a chill night.

Made the trip from Seattle to Oregon; roughly 3 hours of mostly freeway driving. It was relatively benign however I did manage to get picked off by an airplane and pulled over by a state trooper ... ticket #1
We stayed at Jupiter Next in the NE of Portland (where someone was nice enough to pour/spit a beer all over my car in the middle of the night)... During the day we hit downtown and the river boardwalk renting a deuce bicycle and grabbing some margaritas and tacos along the way. Pretty cool spot. I was shocked at the number of homeless people throughout the city. This place is not for me; gender neutral washrooms, kids dressed as fairies, addicts passed out in a pile of needles and anti-pipeline/LNG signs. F this place, we're out. (Please inform me if we stayed in the wrong area of town as that was quite the experience) |

From Portland to Lincoln City; this is where the trip got interesting. Immediately upon turning off onto the Oregon Coast Trail the roads were almost engulfed by trees. What a stunning drive.
Ticket number two, the first in Oregon, was the byproduct of a pass gone wrong. I had just finished the pass when the trooper rounded the corner with Ka blaring; no time to brake. Too little too late. Grumpily I set course for The Valley of the Giants however google led us to a 16mi gravel logging road. Cancel that destination. I had a backup, Drift Creek Falls Trail. Upon hitting the trail entrance I almost turned around when we were welcomed by another gravel road. This gravel road however was only about 200 meters long before it turned into quite possible the most beautiful 9mi stretch of winding single track I have ever driven. At the end of the 9 mile stretch we parked and took the dogs for a gorgeous hike across a suspension bridge to a waterfall. Absolutely stunning, without a doubt the highlight of the trip so far. Once in Lincoln city we took the dogs to the beach for the first time where my "special" bully decided to chase a seagull into the ocean at high tide. Lesson learnt as the little sausage got tossed and rolled in the waves and I had to recover her fully dressed from dinner. |

Thought you were going to slow down and check out the scenery....?????
Two tickets, yikes........ Portland is like any other city, good areas and bad. If I ever stay in Portland (very seldom), I prefer the SW area out of the city core. I think you may have been in a seedy area, but others will know better than I do.

I can understand how you keep getting tickets. Even cruising on the highway I can't keep my car under 70MPH. It is a struggle going speed limit. This car just wants to cruise at 90MPH.

I just got back from Portland last week! Portland is a weird place, very progressive. Yes, lots of homeless and in some areas some zombies are walking around. Surround area is beautiful though. Astoria was charming, Cannon Beach, the surrounding falls, Mt. Hood etc.
I WISHED I could have driven my F80 there... alas I was stuck in a minivan full of kids! 20180701_0908 - Portland - 6D - IMG_5809_100 by JMG, on Flickr 20180701_1233 - Portland - 6D - IMG_5874_100 by JMG, on Flickr Astoria, OR by JMG, on Flickr Haystack Rock - Cannon Beach OR by JMG, on Flickr Mt Hood by JMG, on Flickr 20180701_0743 - Portland - 6D - IMG_5745_100 by JMG, on Flickr
