This is even better for people who like to get in quickly, I often have to pull my door handle 2 or 3 times before it registers and unlocks. Would be great if it had already unlocked when I was 5 feet away so I can just get in and go. Last edited by Remonster; 07-12-2018 at 07:32 PM.. |

reason for keycard
I think the reason for the keycard is so you can lock the car with the keyfob inside, hidden hopefully, and put the slim credit card sized keycard in you bathing suit pocket and go surfing, for example.
Of course this could apply to many other activities. Imagine you are at the beach with just a towel to lay on and want to jump in the water - what would you do with the ELECTRONIC FOB? Nightmare. This way, the waterproof and inexpensive card can be safely zipped up in you wet pocket and away you go. This is my understanding of the logic behind it. |

I had to replace a fender finisher piece of trim on my X4(where the side blinker would be) and it was 100 dollars. For a small triangular piece of plastic. This card is probably going to be pricey.

Bit of a gimmick really. No doubt phone unlock will be down to a few seconds unlock & lock in a relatively short time.

The welcome lights on approach sound the same as what many far cheaper cars have offered for years, same as the auto lock when walking away.
All I want is comfort access on my rear doors. |

I have this already in my Civic and love not having to do any fiddling around for my keys to lock or reaching for the for handle to lock the car. I love this feature.

This digital key is reliant on a secure element (a computer chip within the phone) dedicated to making sure this handshake can happen without customer information being used between devices. While both Samsung and Apple have one in the phones, Apple has opted to wait until the next iteration of NFC around 2020 before considering to allow it on iPhones. I'm not 100% sure of the exact reasoning behind it. |
