As far as Sixt, I've looked into it... yes LAX has it but not SNA.

Not sure if your plans are flexible but if it was me I'd fly into San Diego and spend time there and then move up to Newport Beach.

Drive down to Dana Point and go have a drink at the Ritz. The property is breathtaking, it's up on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Great view from the bar - they have this huge window facing the ocean.
