I don't need to use expletives to get my points across, and am offended by millennials and their use of "WTF" and "AF" as common language even in published "news" articles. I don't think that Dial can produce soap fast enough to wash out the mouths of today's teens and 20-somethings, so I guess we're stuck with potty-mouth kids since effective punishments like this are now classified as child abuse.
One of my co-workers in the office needs constant reminders to watch his language. He brags that 12 years of nuns cracking his knuckles with rulers couldn't make him clean up his language/behavior, and isn't afraid of *another* trip to HR for his vulgarities.....

I used to curse/swear/what have you through my teens and into college. Where I stopped was when I realized I was using these colorful metaphors in every sentence without even realizing till after. I then took a hard look at how I am presenting myself in front of others and decided to make a change.
I don't mind people swearing like sailors around me. The funny thing is people that do often times feel uncomfortable doing it around me which I find hilarious. They'll many times ask if I'm offended as they can tell I don't use that type of language....normally. Now I do get vulgar when I'm really really mad/angry. That's how someone can tell I've reached my breaking point which I hope to believe is a rarity. |

I had an uncle who was the king of non-swearing swearing. He'd string words together that got his point across but wasn't using words that were actually vulgar. He used "Crimmany Cripes" a lot. Kind of like the father in A Christmas Story.
![]() Sometimes I use his "swears", sometimes I use swear words in Italian, Polish, French or Ukrainian, but I very rarely use English curse words besides every combination of "fuck" I'd probably be offended if a prissy neighbor called me out on my potty mouth at a bbq too though. ![]()

As long as you can use the appropriate language in the appropriate settings, it’s fine.
Nothing is more embarrassing than the inability to communicate without cursing, I think it demonstrates an inability to form an educated, cohesive statement. But otherwise, do what the fuck you want. |

I do curse a lot but only once I know my company is ok with it. Know your setting. It actually offends me when a guy swears in a group setting and then looks at me if I'm the only female and says "Oh sorry about my language, there's a lady in the room". Ugh just STFU.

Unless I'm with my oldest friends, almost never. When I do, everyone is so shocked because as a few others have mentioned, having a vocabulary equal to the task means almost never needing to curse. This gives cursing the maximum impact I think it deserves.
See ya later, MFs!

Go around with that sh*t
![]() Actually its not really appropriate for airmen cursing on the open mike, but there are situations where someone forgot just to release the mike button. That could be embarrassing especially when it is PA into the cabin ![]() Privat I use sometimes vulgar or cursing when Im into the mood of it but people who really know me would recognize instantly if Im serious or not.

As I have become older, much of my personality is situational. This would really upset the younger me. In general, I curse freely. At work, in the office, it's quite commonplace and the die-hards here will actually think less of you for not cursing. Odd professional office environment for sure, but I kinda like it. In general, I look at my interactions with other people the way stand-up comedians should....you have to gauge the room before you interact too much. This can make a break any situation, especially when it comes to business or networking. For the most part, I deal with supervisors, production employees and contractors which tends to get me more of bit of rapport if I tend not to act too professionally around them. I, personally, would rather be around people who are a little lax in their verbiage than to be quite so uptight.

It's not about virtue signaling (for me anyway), it's about retaining bandwidth. How the hell do people express REALLY intense feelings when the strongest words are being so overused that people desensitize. Used to be you could use cursing to really impact people (and a good way to figure out who was too uptight, or not). the other day I saw a retired Navy guy with a T-shirt that said something like "We're the guys people drink and swear like" and it made me wish for the old days.
