Good point!

Brings back memories of the Bangle Butt, only this time it's the front.

Whatever, dude. I'm tired of complaining about BMW design on the internet. Will just vote with my wallet.

This guy is living in a bubble. I've heard nothing but rebuke for the new grills. We want things to change too, but we want attractive changes! Also, we don't want herding behavior in design. Everyone wants massive grills, but bmw shouldn't be some monkey see monkey do company. Really glad I chose to pick up a used 435i instead of holding out for the redesign. Guess it'll be another 7 years or so until I'm in the market for a new 4er.

Out of all these pointless comments this actually is a great question that I would love an answer too. I'm sure nobody wants to touch someone or something and need new bumper , radiator support, etc.

Remember it's the BOD which chooses the design.

The latest drawings are an improvement over the previous drawings and the 4 concept car and hopefully the final product, that front end can change appearance significantly. If not, it's C8 here I come!!

@Sedan_Clan

Sir, you have some work to do in this thread! lol. And no, in still not believing the g80 will have the giant grille on the concept, lol. I'm still hoping that even if it's on biggER side it will look acceptable. That 4er concept is unacceptable. lol.

I’m afraid of what the LCI G20 might look like.

There is a huge difference between awful, and bloody awful.

lots of heat from both sides but as I have been saying lets wait and see what it looks like when it comes out. I have a feeling it will slowly grow on them. I know I know guys, but lets wait and see

I just looked up the numbers out of curiosity.

Between the years of 2000 and 2007 Chrysler sold roughly 100K PT Cruisers every year.

I'm not ready to brand the ugly 4-series concept a failure.
Using an extinct model is not the wisest choice for supporting an argument.

The fact that he's had to publicly defend the hideous style speaks volumes in itself.

Agree with the first response to this thread; he is tone deaf. Who cares how drastic the change is if it's for the worse. Defending the unappealing styling will not change majority public (forum) opinion.

He basically answered a question that no one asked.

The minimalist design has been pioneered by Mercedes' designer. Just like how everyone was copying Bangle back in the day, even if they didnt go that far as he did. Hate the Bangle butt and that old 7 series all you like, but i've seen the bangle butt adapted by renault, mercedes, audi, etc. Now it feels like Mercedes is leading, but they are actually making pretty cars while they're at it.

But nobody is copying Hooydonk and BMW these days. They arent pioneers. The minimalist exterior and big grill with fins pulling outwards is mercedes, AMG GT in particular.
The interior with the central screen connecting to the instrument cluster is mercedes again.
The glass gear lever is Volvo.
The pseudo-metalic surface that gives you vertigo which BMW put in the 3 series interior is from Volvo as well.

The ugly elements like the massive grills, the horrible 8 series central console, the Barchetta looking Z4, etc are all Hooydonk.

BMW continues to show how they've lot the plot with their arrogance.

The Bangle cars, notable the pre-LCI E65 and E60, had unconventional styling yes. But they still drove like proper BMWs.

This entire decade, ever since the launch of the F10, BMW has proved repeatedly how very little they care about the customers who made their brand what it is today. They're all about the ///Marketing now. Instead of making cars that are fun to drive, their priority is to sell the image of a fun car with gaudy styling, M badges on non-M cars, and garbage steering/chassis tuning (reaffirmed by all the negative product reviews and lost comparison tests the past 9 years).

You are far from the brand I once loved BMW. You're a sell-out and shell of your former self.

I actually think that if you made the grill 10% smaller is would look awesome. Everything besides the grill looks modern and cool. The new front bumper especially.
