Just like when I see a white car and wonder if they could not decide on a color or when I see a white SUV I think "why didn't they just buy a refrigerator"

maybe this is because the first vehicles i saw with matte paint were military vehicles like the stealth bomber, but...
matte paint for me looks good with very angular cars with edges, vents and blocky features. like the F80 and the Z4 above. it doesn't look as good with smoother shapes like the 911 above (no offense meant, just an opinion). |

looks good if done right.
most of the matte cars i see on a regular basis are bad wraps or plastidip jobs. from what i've heard with BMW frozen paint its a pain to keep clean and you're better off leasing it than buying it.

I feel like nine times out of ten I'm not into that look. A lot of matte cars are matte because the paint is trashed anyways and someone just rattle bombed the car.
Typically the matte cars I liked would look good with any paint on them. There's a matte blue scion FRS near me (that's a quality wrap job) but it just looks like the paint is unfinished or fading.

Hate the matte look and my hunch is that it's going to age like milk.

I think only certain sleek exotic cars look good in matte paint. Sedans and regular sports coupe just can't really pull it off.
Matte paint on a sedan is like a fat middle aged man wearing Speedos! |

Depends on the car and color combination. Some cars work with some colors of matte but not in other colors. I has to be the right color on the right car to really work. Other wise it just looks try hard.

I'm not a fan of matte paint, factory or otherwise. Just saw a couple of matte red Ferrari F1 cars at the USGP and they looked worse in person than they do on tv. Hoping they go back to gloss red for next year.

For what it's worth, the Phantom was always my favorite model growing up and I have enough respect for those that flew and crewed them that for you, I will agree to like one, matte car, even if it is grey. So now my official stance is all matte cars are bad, except yours, which is awesome. |

Us old foggies still remember when we were out beating around in our muscle cars and seeing our friends slowly getting the money to work on their cars. It was of course HP first and foremost, but then came slow body work, then when you got to drive around a "full" car in primer - it was a celebration. But the dull primer still meant unfinished - and that is what my brain still see's when I see the matte paint jobs.
I've seen some cases where it shows off the lines of certain cars well, but I don't think I could ever own one as it would always look like primer to me. #oldfolkllife
