Great read especially if you work with insurance restoration. Most customers I deal with that had Allstate switch after all the hoops they make them job through. I just got off the phone with an Allstate adjuster telling me he submitted for full replacement of the roof but his bosses kicked it back as a repair

i've never really had a prolem with the basic companies like SF, AS, Geico. Maybe once in awhile we'll get a stubborn adjuster, but thats normal.
i think the company that sucks ass is wind haven, and pearl holdings. |

Allstate is so bad in the northeast you can't even buy a policy in mass from all of the law suits and complainants to the insurance commission

Few companies I have been with and their experience below.
Allstate: had an incident and they didn’t want to cover. Basically said after the deductible they can send me $2. I told them I don’t feel like I’m in good hands and the agent laughed and said “sir, you are in good hands.” Wtf... State Farm: pretty good and responsive. Haven’t really made any claims with them but experience was okay with general inquiries and Policy questions/updates. Amica: this was probably the best. I was with them for a year insuring the Porsche. I called around for quotes and decided to go with them for the coverage. Was $200 more a year than Geico and $600-800 cheaper vs other big guys. Experience was great. After I switched to Geico the agent recently reached out asking if she could help me with anything. I have no doubt that if I had a claim with them it would have been handled with the utmost care. Geico: been with them a year now. Switched because it was cheaper and includes MBI. Customer service has been good. No issues or claims so far and I hope never having to make a claim, ever. With this COVID19 stuff going on, they’re not cancelling policies from March until April 30th effectively giving everyone a month+ of coverage for free. My renewal was due end of March and I just paid for it. Didn’t want to take advantage. Last week I received an email saying that they’re crediting various policies (I think all policies) $100-150 to help with this situation. Don’t know if I will get anything back and don’t really care but that to me spoke volume. They care about their customers. |

Went back and read the article, I guess they are only making SOME companies return premiums. Wonder how they choose which companies.. |

State Farm Home Owner's was so painless and great when I had water damage that I stuck with them for Home Owner's even when I moved my other policies to another carrier.

I have had USAA for 30 years, and my father even longer. He had a fire fully devastate his beach house in NJ. It took everything. Within a day, USAA was out at the property, had him in a rental house. Within 7 days, he had a check, no haggling, no mediation. Multi-Million dollar claim paid out within a week, covering his rental home and other misc expenses. I will NEVER switch.

We had two floods due to plumbing issues in two different houses (which is why we turn the main off when we go away overnight now) and USAA took great care of us. 2005 and 2012. On the second one, the company they sent in to do the repairs quoted over $120k but our contractor was about $60k, so we worked with USAA to use our own contractor and saved some money. USAA did not write wind policies in FL when we moved here so we’ve been with another company but had no claims. We’re about to move to TN and USAA’s quote is substantially less than the local companies, so we will return to them. |

When possible, we've been with AAA for home, auto, and umbrella since the 70s. Specifically, CSAA.
We're pretty much claims-free, with one notable exception. Our M6 needed a full repaint after a thick layer of gravel left by Nevada DOT on I-80 east of Reno made a real mess out of the car. CSAA took care of the repaint without saying a word, and the job was perfect.

So, I just moved from CT. quick story on insurance.
Our home was listed for sale on 8/13, open house 8/14, 3 offers by end of day 8/15. Under contract 8/17, back up offer 8/20 On 8/24 we got hit by lightning and the house caught fire. Lost all 3 offers, and the back up ended up stepping up Hanover Insurance was my insurance company. In 12 hours the mitigation team was there, in 24 hours the adjusters were there. In just over 30 days all work was completed to better than new condition, all my out of pocket was paid, the contractors were paid and they cut me a check for an additional $25k, which is what we we lost in the the sale from the first buyer to the back up offer. Total checks were just under $175K in 45 days for clean up, mitigation, construction, replacement of electrical stuff that blew, all out of pocket and the $25k. less my $1000 deductable The adjuster was awesome to work with, explained my rights, understood our deadline on moving, etc. Suggested a contractor that could do the work, be quality and used good subs (explaining that I could use anyone I wanted, but knew fast was more important than me making another few grand on a house I wouldn't be living in) I'm sorry they don't write here in UT because they would have had a customer for life |

Just as an FYI to everyone....inflation has hit insurance companies hard.
The values of used cars going up affects claim payouts, The parts problems in the supply chains increases costs, the labor pool shortage raises costs. Claim frequency rose as we came out of covid as people got back on the road...along with some bad habits. (does anyone stop at stop signs these days??) My industry wide guess (As an agent and former claim rep for 32 years) is that you ALL are getting rate increases at least until the inflation gets checked. Not making excuses for the industry but just pointing out what we are seeing. My day is spent proactively calling my clients and helping them understand rate increases that they are seeing. Here are numbers we got just the other day.... CT GEICO 5.7% 10/6/2022 DC Allstate Corp 10.1% 5/2/2022 DE Travelers 6.0% 11/18/2022 ME Concord Group Insurance 6.9% 10/1/2022 NH Progressive Agency 7.9% 9/16/2022 NH Progressive Direct 10.6% 9/16/2022 PA Liberty Mutual 28.1% 11/14/2022 PA GEICO 34.4% 10/6/2022 VA Allstate Corp 5.0% 10/3/2022 VA Liberty Mutual 16.9% 8/22/2022 VT GEICO 6.4% 10/13/2022 PA Liberty Mutual 28.1% 11/14/2022 If you want a BMW gearhead "Good Neighbor" agent in Virginia just PM me.....

OTOH, our umbrella policy was unchanged, which I found kind of strange as it tends to go up every year, sometimes by a fair amount.

Every once in a while there is a push to nationalize insurance. It would make lots of things easier on both sides of the equation but probably result in people in Iowa paying for Florida's Hurricanes. Some states are simply not worth doing business in depending on the insurance climate.
