In addition I gave friends rides to pick up their cars and gave wine to friends, mailman, and neighbors.

What I realized in Mexico is that while I would love to help everyone, I simply cannot. This must be how God feels. I'm sure he would love to help ALL that are in need but he can only do so much. Oftentimes we ask "why them and not me?" and I think that's probably how He feels too. I felt so bad about a lady who sat on the steps of a church all day selling handmade crafts. It was late at night and cold and she was sitting there with her kid trying to make a living. I gave her some food. There was a lot more cases like that. Thinking about it now still makes me sad.
I heard it best from one of my most influential pastors throughout my church career, "no one can do everything, but everyone can do something."

Whether that was original and authentic to him it matters not. It had an impact on me and I have done as many somethings as I could since. It seems you have as well.
Agreed. My brother was with me and at one point said "you can't help everyone Kenny" to which I answered with "yeah, but I can make a difference with this one."

Very nice! I have a Nikon DSLR now.

What product class, if you don't mind me asking?
All sorts of small things. What you might have seen is glassware for an international company. But generally, what I would do were basically listing photos for whoever wanted high quality listings with small stuff from toys to smaller farm equipment. In all honesty, I haven't done TONS of work due to health reasons, but what I have done, I put everything into.

Whenever my wife & I are at a coffee spot and see someone who is less unfortunate nearby the front doors, well at least the ones we’ve mostly come across when you look at them they look like they have nothing else to give in life nor sense of direction, we would usually give them hot food & a beverage. The atmost appreciation they reciprocate in return is very satisfying and makes us feel human.

We live a savage world and it’s OK to take a step away from the savagery for moment to do good.

Donated money to provide meals for families in need locally. Was told we provided 15 meals to those in need.

I’m no saint, but I try to do good where I can.

One rule I have is tip more than 20%, minimum $5.00 (Waffle House where the tab might be under $10), unless the service is really, really bad - then still 15% because I don’t know what might be going on in that servers life but I’m not making it worse.

I donate a lot of stuff, and try to find appropriate places. We’re about to move so there is a lot to give. Steinway piano to a music school in a low income and low prospects part of the state. Nothing inspires like arts, and there is nothing better for a budding musician than to be able to use a top quality instrument. Clothes to shelters and rehab places, where they go directly to people instead of being resold. Goodwill as a last resort, but still better than tossing in the garbage anything still useful.

I rarely get stressed in traffic anymore. Makes about zero difference in my arrival time if I let someone cut in, etc. Perhaps they are stressed, late, or have a minor emergency? Perhaps not, but why not let them in?

Always hold the door for someone within a few paces (coming or going), last to enter or exit an elevator. Basic kindnesses.

Every once in a while I’ll pay for the meal of someone behind me in a drive-thru, but not so much anymore because it has become kind of a cheesy gesture.

I don’t do things for attention (the piano is anonymous for example) on me, but will support attention for the recipient if they want it.

There are opportunities every day for little kindnesses. These are much more pleasing to find and execute than being rude or nasty. Life is all about time, not money or anything else. Using time to help someone else is nice. At least that’s how I see it.

Every piece of open-source code that I have ever shared has this as the last paragraph of the documentation:

Quote:
This is the part where I am supposed to put in a PayPal link and ask for
donations if you find this code useful. Since I am financially solvent (and
would starve to death if I had to make a living as a programmer), :-) I would
like to encourage anyone reading this to make a small donation to a local
not-for-profit school, hospital, animal shelter, or other charity of your
choice who appreciates philanthropic support.
I have no accounting about if anyone has actually followed through, but would like to think that a few charities around the world have received donations from users of my freely-shared programs.....

We gave our postal carrier and garbage collector a card and gift this year. Both were very appreciative; honestly, will start to carry forward each year.

Regardless of gender, the items that many shelters need are: new UNDERWEAR and SOCKS, gift cards from chain stores for shoes, personal grooming products such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, feminine hygiene products.

$2 socks for someone is meh x50 pairs helps for sure.

Edit: I was sick 2018-2019, I'm fine now, some neighbors did my walkway and steps all winter long not just one a few different guys, little things like that are great, I'm still calling the cops IF music is on past midnight on a weeknight, that's not gonna change, I don't like em that much

Let me put this in the original Alien Speak for all the new guys here:

As I dropped out of hyperspace after another Sol solar system joint training exercise, I picked up an earthling on my scanners. I was on a close to the nape run and almost hit her with my craft. I halted to pick her up and inspect for possibilities of probing. I was moving her to safety first before checking on life signs as the terrestrial authorities. arrived.

You're welcome.

As someone who was a musician (was pretty good at it too), I can tell you that you're absolutely right. The privileged beginning musician starting out with a Bach Stradivarius is one thing (they probably won't appreciate it), but a kid in a low income area being given the opportunity to play ON A STEINWAY is MASSIVE. That gift is absolutely incredible and I aspire to do such things some day. Thank you for doing this. It literally makes me a little misty eyed thinking about it.

I try my best to be a good person every day. I treat people the way I want to be treated. I donate to a handful of charities on a regular basis; Tunnel to Towers, St Jude's, Make a Wish, Shriner's. If I have stuff to give away, I make sure it goes to people in need and not these places that sell the stuff. Clothes go to places that help battered women and veterans and their families. I give if someone is in need, without being asked, and without expecting anything in return.

I'm actually uncomfortable talking about it, I don't do it for the recognition.
