Mine didn't come back at all. They had to manually enter it I guess, and their options through their website didn't even have an M2. I had the same concern that I wouldn't get covered if something happened so made sure they got it sorted.

i think the last ticket i got was driving Her ZHP to SoCal. Got radared by a CHP parked on the median divider, going 84 in a 65. i literally came
around a curve, and saw him there pointing the laser / radar gun at me. he just pointed across the freeway, indicating that he expected me to pull over. that was about 10 years ago.

still breaking in Her M2C. so i havent really driven it very fast.

Yeah unfortunately the way it works is insurance gets jacked up when you are guilty. The money for a lawyer is more than worth it. I've gotten a few tickets and only one for speeding and the lawyer beat them all and I still have a clean record so a lawyer is always worth it. It costs as much as the ticket but at minimum it'll always be reduced. In my experience all mine have been dismissed this is just my first speeding ticket in a long time.

This is proof I need to invest in a good radar detector. Anyone have a recommendation?

Sucks, but that was a nice cop for not giving you the full Monty at 110mph. Good luck!

I’m clearly too well behaved. I have had one legit ticket in 14 years driving and several sports cars.

What I got? 71 in a 50 zone (kph mind you). Going up a hill in my C63S not even ripping. Bad luck and the traffic division had a fixed manned radar setup behind a pole.

I paid the ticket and moved on with my life. Still not convinced I was actually going 20 over lol.

When it happens, I am sure it will be a doozy. I wonder at what speed you get the go directly to jail and do not pass go card.
Can you believe those people that put the tracking chip in their car for their insurance company to see their "safe" driving?
I don't think I want State Farm knowing what I am doing in this car!

My State Farm insurance card and app both say 2019 M2.

It's one thing to get a speeding ticket, but quite another to be ticketed for racing. In CT, it's a one year loss of license. Not to be a preacher or a-hole, but I'm sure you realize you're lucky that the cop "let you off" with only a speeding ticket.

Was on a road that's mostly traffic free that's frequented by sporty cars and people riding bicycles. Cop was hiding in the bushes using laser and got me as I came around a corner on an open straight away that turns into technically residential. He said I was doing 50 in 35 zone. I think it was posted 50 before the turn. He was polite, all business, wrote me the ticket, and took off. I plead guilty and did online traffic school to keep it off my record. Ticket goes on my record if I get another within 18 months. Probably should have lawyered up and fought it. I think it's 18 months exactly the 3rd of this month, so I made it!

First ticket? About 1990. I had an ‘87 Supra going about 65-70 on a 55 highway. A few points and a fine. Moved to FL a few years later. Probably 6 tickets total over the years. Highways are flat and straight here. Too easy to exceed limits without being “reckless”. Most of the time I’d get nabbed for being 10-15 more than the highway limit. Never sped in neighborhoods.

I have a need for speed, and honestly I usually am the faster driver around. But I'm not stupid, and drive well and dont speed in stupid situations. I also dont drag race people off a red light, or race people at all, or anything like that. Driving sensibly and understanding your environment will reduce the number of times you get pulled over. Having said that I have had a few pull over moments, two most memorable examples below:

Doing 91 in a 55mph zone, get pulled over. I'm always nice to the people in blue, always respectful and polite. Arguing with them is futile. I apologized to the officer for my stupidity once he made me aware of my speed, said there was no reason to be going that fast and told him I wasnt paying attention. He reduced the speed on the ticket (otherwise would have been an arrest) but it was $500 + 6 points (!!!). I went to court, apologized to the judge and said I was there to admit my fault and apologize and ask for leniency. She looked at the cop, and he told her that I was the nicest person he pulled over all week. She threw out my ticket.

Next time I ran into a speed trap going 55 in a 35mph. Cop pulls me over along with, I use the same approach. Be nice, be polite, dont argue, and even apologize if your ego allows it. He was very nice to me and said I should go to court. Given that this was in a shitty state, I decided to go to court. In court there were lots and lots of people (speed trap day), and also plenty of officers cases being heard. The judge was having a bad day and wasn't even letting off self proclaimed doctors and nurses. I thought I was screwed and just wasted half a day. My turn comes and the judge aske the cop to read my summons, and cops says he can find it. The judge looks confused as that hasn't happed all morning, then offers the courts copy to the cop. Cop refuses to take it from the judge!!!! Judge asks twice more, cop says its ok and he doesn't want it!! Judge says he'll have to throw out my ticket. Cop says fine. I am like WTF!!!!

Bottom line: Have fun, but be safe. And always respect the officer who pulls you over.

I'm 38 years old, I've been insured since a teen but I still can't wrap my head around points and premium rates

My state was unique with the (same rate across) any insurance company, your step (starting at 09) would go up or down depending on your record that year

Taxachusetts USA 🇺🇸 FYI, driving a vehicle with a expired inspection sticker is considered a violation, point added to your record

In short: it's not the ticket/citation I'm concerned about it's the (points) just 2 damn warnings count as a point here, add multiple vehicles on your policy makes that little speeding ticket costs thousands of dollars over 5 years

Just over a year ago right before the pandemic I was test driving an OG M2 at a dealer. Had a mate with me so the sales guy decided to just let us go alone so he didn't have to squeeze in the back. We take it out on some back roads and do a few little pulls. Just as I crest a hill I see a trooper come the other way. He immediately whipped around and turn on the lights. Wrote me up for 65 in a 45. The start of the pandemic pushed back my court date by 3 months. Eventually had my day in court and the judge looks at the ticket and asks me why I was going so fast. I tell him I was unfamiliar with the power of the car and wasn't paying attention to my speed. He looks back at the ticket and noticed it said BMW M2 and asks, "That's a nice car, so did you end up buying it?" I tell him, "No your honor, it was too much car for me." He smiled, told me he didn't want to ruin my record and downgraded it to a non-moving violation with no points.

A year later I ended up with my own M2 Competition and one of the first things I made sure to get was a radar detector.

Nobody cares about your car.
Follow the rules and don't be like others. You are making the roads unsafe for others too.

I have an M2C and it is tempting to push the car and if I do I always keep it within the speed limits and only when it's completely safe.
I have noticed others can get offended too, even when you accelerate hard within speed limits I have had old people yell at me for nothing.

So I try to avoid provoking others but always stay in speed limits.

One thing that I think is important to remember is that speeding enforcement can vary a lot. While visiting relatives in the midwest I noticed how slow cars were going on the interstate (the speed limit). It didn't take me long to figure out why, I saw cars getting pulled over for going 6 or 7 mph over the speed limit. On SoCal freeways cars routinely drive 85 to 90 mph as a cruising speed. I'm talking about multiple lanes of traffic flowing that fast. In many places in Europe it's just impossible to speed without getting tickets. There are radar flashers all over the place. The upside is that in most places in Europe they don't have the driving record points system. You just pay and go unless you're racing or driving really fast. In that case you can bend over and kiss your license goodbye.

Interesting that other Midwest areas are so slow (Ohio I am looking at you). When I lived in Michigan prior to 2011, I was a consultant, so driving long distances around Detroit was part of the job. I would see folks going 100+ every single day. Most folks there speed that I have seen. If you are going the speed limit, you are impeding traffic and will cause complete chaos.

The entire New Jersey Turnpike flows at 90mph in unison, the Car and the Truck side.

I don't even think the regular speed of traffic in San Diego is within the speed limit?

In Europe they run average speed cameras along highways . If you get from A to B too quickly you will get a nice bill in the mail.

They even sent me a ticket internationally months after the fact lol.

Basically set cruise to the speed limit in those places.
