I think you guys are missing the point of it. This wouldn't be something you would leave you house to go to just to configure the car. It would be more of a display stand in the dealership to either give poeple something to play with while they wait around, or the dealership could use it to impress walk in buyers.

Obviously, no one on this board falls into the later category. So think of it as more of a time waster and something cool to play with while you get your oil changed, or some service done.

I think its pretty cool regardless.

I suppose if the software written for it by BMW is bogus you could crunch it, but it's some pretty impressive hardware underneath.
u were at PDC too? nice!

well... it's not the point... the hardware itself shouldnt cause the crash. im worried about the OS, and worried about the software written on top of it

Wow... That is really high tech and classy mate. Haha... If it were making a purchase via the sys i'd have too much fun playing with the system rather than anything else.

It's kind of funny how the same day BMW releases that overcomplex and overpriced gadget they also release a statement about how the current economic situation is the worst crisis they've ever faced. I agree it looks neat, but a simple flash based webapp can do that for a lot less $$, minus the touch stuff. If these were better economic times it would make a little more sense.

lame... before they waste money on that, they ought to invest first and foremost in better communications with customers... recalls, updates, etc... ought to be pushed out on various twitter or other modern realtime channels to owners. It sucks that forums like this have to speculate so much about this progman or that progman.

BMW needs to take a page out of the modern PR playbook and have a blog and twitter channel being very transparent about current bugs and problems and plans to fix, new product announcements, etc... they are still operating as if in the 1980s.
