I had surgery on my face and they took my wisdom teeth out while they were at it. This was 5 years ago. The nerves in and under my upper cheeks and my upper lip are damaged and will never heal. Its a weird feeling when you touch those parts on my face its like I cant feel anything yet its a tingle but its not at the same time.. its weird. They are gone.

I didn't really think much since he's in our network and never really realized the risk. He never really sat down with me and told me all the risks although he's trying to cover his ass saying he did.

If he told me there was a large chance I would have nerve damage I would have walked out. I just wanted it out since it was making my teeth bunch together, it wasn't hurting at all.

Apparently I had an infection and he gave me some medicine for it so some feeling returned in an area but a lot of it it still kinda numb. I seriously feel like a retard right now and should have known better. I have to go back to get my stitches out but I seriously want to start bitching him out for not telling me this could of happened but this isn't going to accomplish anything. Any advice?
Don't sweat the dentist too hard yet. You know better now than to just jump into something when it deals with your body. He or she is a health care provider that is there to help you, not hurt you. When I tell a patient that I do such and such all the time in order to gain their confidence, I also informed them of all risks and such-it's called informed consent and you read and sign a form understanding this. Its possible that the infection occured around the sight(still open wound even with sutures) due to food particles getting into the open socket and causing some of the irritation to the nerve and the antibiotics helped alleviate. I bet you didn't realize that you could've gotten trismus or lock jaw,re-infection, excessive bleeding, dry socket, just to name a few that are potential issues after 3rd molar extractions. Good luck! and hopefully you can kiss girls with feeling on your lips again Bad joke!!!

I had my wisdom tooth removed between my Sophomore and Junior years in college and my GPA dropped .15 points. True story.

Edit: make that .15 points. Only off by a factor of 10.

I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth that looked like they were growing into the molars from my dentist x-rays. He referred me to an oral surgeon who had a 3-D scanner and found that they weren't actually growing into the molars. But I opted to remove them anyways. I paid a premium for one of the better doctors and he took them out while I was knocked out in less than an hour. I think I brought on an infection from not cleaning well enough after I ate so one side of my face swelled up after a week or so.

I went back to the oral surgeon and he knew right away it was an infection. They brought me back in, tried to numb me with some laughing gas but it had no effect. So he told me to open up, he stuck this crazy metal looking bee stinger in my mouth and diced up that area to let the infection ooze out. That was so painful I almost cried. A few days later, life was back to normal and I don't have to worry about those wisdom teeth causing bone decay.
