Does buying a car for your son count? Bought a 2000 323i 5MT at 169k miles from the original owner’s son. The car wasn’t pretty from the outside, the beautiful Fern Green paint was peeling, the car was dented in some areas, but mechanically was great, especially the cooling system. Was driven all the way to 192k until it was rear ended. As for maintenance, mainly just had normal stuff replaced/fixed, like the water/fuel pump , clutch, spark plugs/ignition coils, xenon headlights, etc.

My first car was a 2001 Ford Escape that I put 100k miles over about 7 years. Bought new and fully loaded, no problems until about 90,000 miles and then slowly everything started to fall apart. I actually hit 100,000 miles on the drive to the dealership to trade…dealership gave me $1,000 for it. I wasn’t thrilled but also was tired of having to fix something on it every month.

Traded that for a used 2005 E46 3 series that I had wanted since the day the E46 generation was announced. That car…I loved that car, with about 48,000 miles (not certified preowned). I drove that another 35,000 miles over about 3 years and it basically fell apart too. Water pump issues, fuel pump issues, battery replaced twice, rotors/brakes, fuel line needed replacing, wheels needed new bearings. But I still loved that car…and still do. I had to get rid of it because I was going to put about half of what the car was worth into repairs.

From then on I leased a few cars until my current car, the G20, which I think I’ll hang on to for at least 100,000 more miles.

1995 volvo wagon bought for stepson. Bought at 165,000. Ran until 250,000. As far as I know, it's still running now.

My parents gave me the 1975 green 245DL Volvo wagon, aka 'the pickle wagon" at 76,012 miles in 1985. I drove it for several years until it left me at work one too many times. I always carried my tools in the back, along with some key spare parts like EGR valve.
One Friday after work, it wouldn't start. I punched out the side window, and got a ride home. Went to Mercury dealer and bought a brand new wagon from them.

When we gave the pickle to an uncle, it still had 76,012 miles

I bought a new 2004 Hyundai Elantra, base model with the manual. I drove it for 8 years and 130,000 miles. Nothing but standard maintenance.
