So yeah…if you read the other replies most disagree with you anyways and realize it’s a rude thing to ask someone. |

I guess we are the outliers. We suggest to family that they bring their dogs when they visit. (We have 2 of our own.). Totally ok with it. Now if someone had a dog with behavioral issues, no we wouldn’t ask and no we would say ok if they asked. But no issues with reasonably behaved dogs.
Expecting someone to find a dog sitter on a holiday isn’t reasonable and dogs aren’t going to hold their piss and shit longer because it’s Christmas. So if you want them to visit and the dogs are good dogs, I’d let them bring them. They will appreciate it (dogs and in-laws).

This thread is all over the place lol.
No it's not ok to take your pet where it is not welcome. Yes it is ok to ask if you can bring your pet. Yes it is ok to say no. We have friends and family where we know our pets are not welcome. We have friends and family that ask why didn't bring them if we show up without. We have friends and family that their pets are welcome in our home and we have friends and family that their pets are not allowed in our home. Just this week we had a tell a family member that they could not bring their emotional support pit bull because it was aggressive the last time it was over. I clearly explained what would have happened had it but and injured one of my dogs. We will see if he shows this year without it. I hope so but hate he dropped the $29.99 on the vest. |

Not unless they are an emotional support animal, and if it's not I'd consider it rude if someone asked because then it makes you look like the bad guy if you decline.

I've even said no to human visitors. As in, we're not receiving guests right now.

Kids yes, pets hell no.
Last pre-Covid thanksgiving (2019) at brother and sister in laws with 2 med sized dogs their friends brought their 2 smaller dogs. The dog all knew each other and played together many times before. What could go wrong? Something happened between the 2 “packs” while the 30 of us were eating and a dog fight erupted over food, too much commotion or who knows what, they’re dogs. A trip to the ER for a dog bite and one to Animerge for a hurt pup put a dark cloud over the rest of the dinner.

It's tough because boarding can be expensive and not everyone is comfortable having a pet sitter come in their home.
I would and do suck it up for family.
