All these reports of transmission and auto start/stop issues on US model does make me question if we should proceed with delivery in about a month from now.
Will primarily be a commuter car around the city. Hmmm. Would BMW be likely to address this in the 2024 x1? Or US market is stuck with what we’ve got. |

I did notice the issues during my test drive but it didn't bother me as much as the test route didn't reflect my daily use. It was my fault to not push for longer seat time and take it to a more comparable route. The primary purpose of my X1 is for city driving and the test drive was 80% highway. Though to be fair once this gets up to speed it exceeded my expectations. It's just the city driving that's a major letdown.
As of now I'm testing to see if deactivating auto/start stop and engaging sport mode will ease this issue. A bit of an annoyance upon every start up but hopefully a software update or coding changes will fix this in the future. |

With this terrible lag- would it make sense to just get a x3 at this point? I was on the fence about the x1 but thought it had great value. But if it’s going to pause every time I hit the gas- sounds almost dangerous.

Lag is present, no doubt. But sport mode is not that bad. Also DCT may have reliability issue if you push hard. It's new / untested as car with new transmission. This was my bigger concern than lag. ZF definitely wins here.
On other hand facelifted X3 will be replaced very soon. From depreciation value viewpoint, probably does not make sense to go with it unless crazy discount from dealer. Also X1 has more space inside comparing to current X3 in all areas(height bigger, legroom bigger, width is ~same) except trunk space where X3 wins. So there is no silver bullet answer. |

I have a feeling that at least for the 28i, once more of these get into customer hands, there will be a software update to address the throttle lag. If throttle response is good in sport mode or when switching to low for non M Sport trims, I'm 100% sure they can remap the throttle in Personal Mode. I've already written a letter to BMW USA, and mentioned it in passing to my dealer, but I'll bring it up again once I go in for the airbag replacement. If a lot of people complain about it, BMW will eventually have to at least acknowledge the issue. Then again, they still haven't fixed the GPS drift issues some of you are having with CarPlay.....

This - it’s annoying that you have to adapt. I enjoyed getting back into a slushy auto BMW after having an early S-tronic Audi as a company car. It was good but some of the traits at low speed were a pain at times. Fingers crossed a future software update makes it better.

In terms of value, the X1 is very appealing. In my area a decently optioned X1 is just about 10% more than a comparably equipped CRV or RAV4 (Touring or Limited trims) as the X1 can be had with a decent discount whereas both the CRV and RAV4 are selling for close to MSRP. I know these are a class bigger but in terms of features and performance wise the HRV and CHR are no where close to the X1. |

Italy here, i have a diesel 2.0 x drive. I can confirm that the gearbox is a nightmare at roundabouts where a quick pull off is required to avoid traffic. I come from an X3 with ZF box which was almost perfect without any lag

My previous BMW Active Tourer which also had a 7-speed DCT (though I believe a different make) and NO MHEV assistance didn't suffer from standingstill lag anything like my X1. Now that the 'honeymoon' period with my X1 has now worn off, I'm hugely disappointed with this aspect of the vehicle. That said, once the car is moving, it is then fine - gear changes are almost imperceptible, and the acceleration for such a small engine is brilliant, as is the economy. Not for this thread, but I shall mention it anyway - don't even get me started on the atrocious design of the centre storage area - it is quite simply almost impossible to extract items from it, a useless example of form over function! And no springs in the large diameter cupholders! |

In sport mode it is much better and I am getting used to it. Spins also happened to me couple of times on dry road when you basically want things to happen faster after start stop. Not MHEV. If driving mode almost fully fixes it, it is 100% software related, but not sure if BMW willing to change this and suffer from proclaimed fuel consumption numbers.
And yea, centre storage area is an absolute design fail from day 1 and I do not know who can angle hand the way to access it. Never used it. Last edited by JupiterOne; 04-29-2023 at 10:15 PM.. |

Update: Several months and several thousand miles later, I'm still highly disappointed in the transmission. Tried all suggestions with various combinations (engine start/stop off, brake hold off, and sport mode) and it still feels clunky. Best way to describe it now is that it really is an automated manual car and the feel of the shifts reflect that.
Really hope BMW releases an update to fix it. Though strangely I haven't seen a single OTA update for this car, ever. Depending on what the new G45 X3 will be like, I may be trading this in a year or so. |
