I've just been going through and reading some threads about the X1 and came across this one which kind of affirmed some of my cons with the X1. I've had it for a few months now and overall like it but here are a few of my cons:

1. When I am braked on an uphill incline and release the brake to go, the lag is unbearable. It almost feels like I am revving my engine and the tires are going to squeal when I finally take off. It's gotten to the point that I have changed my commute home to avoid certain hills I know I would have to go up. I am actually a little worried how this could work in snow.
2. Agree about the air...very low is too low and low is like I am in a rocket.
3. There is a noise my brakes make when I release them, almost like (hard to describe) an exhale. It's not a grinding noise, it's not a clunking noise. Someone told me it's the "change in pressure" from the system and they all do that but it is still distracting. Anyone else know what I am talking about?
4. I do hear a clunking noise from time to time when I am braked in traffic. Kinda sounds like a popping...reminds me of the sounds a car makes when you turn them off and the metal is cooling down. Doesn't make it when I am driving.
5. Stop and go commutes feel a little jerky (even with the engine auto on/off feature turned off). This vehicle definitely rides smoother on the highway.
6. When I really punch down on the gas there is a whizzing noise as it gets up to speed. Someone told me this is just the turbo, but coming from a Prius it may just be a foreign noise to me.
7. We got the paint protection package and when it rains the rain does bead like it was just freshly waxes but then the car looks really dirty after. Not specifically an X1 thing but just something I've noticed.

Make sure that the engine is not in "Ready" mode with the auto-stop-start system. If the engine shuts down, partially lift up on the brake and the engine will re-start. I have found that doing this mostly eliminates the hesitation when I am in situations where I want to get a quick start off the line.

I’ve had my 2024 for about 7 months and it has 13k miles on it. Pretty fully loaded 28i with M pack brown interior with wood trim. I love it. There were some tech glitches in the beginning with apple play but those kinks have been worked out.
I love the driving assistance. Under 40mph it’s full self driving on the highway. I use it daily.

It’s pretty sporty with decent fuel economy. Sometimes I wish I got the M35i but then I think about the fuel economy tradeoff. With how much I drive that’s important to me.

2024 BMW X1 28i  [9.00]
I’ve had several Japanese premium vehicles previously but the 2024 X1 28i is my first BMW. Ordered with X-Line, STD 18” wheels, Premium Package, heated steering wheel & heated front seats. Sports seats, Driving Assistant Plus & Remote Engine Start.

After about 10 months & 4200 miles my assessment is.

LIKES ARE:
-Engines peppiness
-Brakes (brakes feels more sure footing than any vehicle I’ve ever had) mine is among the recall with no remedy available yet. I hope I don’t have an issue & they repair them before I do)
-Overall handling
-Fit & Finish
-looks like a small X5: NICE DESIGN
-Seat comfort
-Size (small but plenty of storage)
-Turning radius
-MPG
-Tank mileage capacity (I’ve gotten 500 miles on a thruway)
-navigation system (better than most I’ve had)
-HUD COLOR (have it on another vehicle & use it all the time)
-Auto brake hold (have it on another vehicle & use it once in a while)
-voice command understanding are better than what I’ve had before
-Driver 1 & 2 settings (it does not just sets seat position & outside mirrors. It sets radio stations & sound settings, HVAC settings & preferences & the computer learns each drivers driving habits & adjusts to them) As well as many other preferences
-interior looks very modern & BMW squeezed out every inch of space
-Though it has inherent transmission characteristics of many DCT, at least it’s not a CVT.
-turbo hesitation does not feel any worse than my other SUV, a 2019 Acura RDX Advanced.
-ASS I always turn it off. I’ve been use to turning off the function in my RDX for past 6 years so I’m used to doing so in the X1. Therefore I’ve not experienced the lag problems others have written about when it’s engaged. That said, adding a quick 1 step method to turn off the ASS which can be set up as a quick key a for ICE engines would be appreciated
-rear seats are great for the overall size of vehicle
-rear storage is great for the overall size of vehicle
-HK radio sound fine but I wish it had an equalizer & had ability to make it louder
-Love XM sound system setting where you can change channels & the song always starts from the beginning.

DISLIKES ARE:
-quirkiness of ID9- although it’s gotten better with last couple of software updates, BMW needs to correct more of the ongoing issues many are having
-No ventilated front seats (have them in my RDX with merino leather seats & love them)
-If preference is set to open just the drivers door, for safety reasons, when touching front drivers door handle, there is no ability to open back doors or all 4 doors, by touching either back door.
-wish it had a few more buttons on key functions for EZ access. (A quick 1 step method to turn off the ASS which can be set up as a quick key a for ICE engines would be appreciated)
-BMW’s decision to take away things that are typically standard on even non premium vehicles. (For example, removing the glove compartment light from 2024 models, having just 1 light in the back storage area)

makes me glad to have the older idrive8 in my '23 X1

also wish ventilated seats were available as an option. however, my seats are relatively cool even in 90-degree weather. the alcantara seats in my X1 feel cooler than full leather and synthetic leather seats

PHEV (30e) here

Likes

- Engine power / Fuel economy / Driving experience. It almost feels like you're driving a hot hatch. No hesitation or start/stop issues as the electric motor blends smoothly with the ICE. M suspension is on the sweet spot for my taste.

- Turning radius is small, really helpful in the city and while maneuvering in tight spaces

- Interior build quality feels premium. The M sport seats are fantastic. It's quite spacious

- The HK sound quality is beyond average

Dislikes

- Some rattles now and then depending on the temperature (center console, driver's door)

- ID9 glitches (charging flap not unlocking randomly, screen going black displaying bmw badge)

- Lack of physical buttons for climate control

- Brakes sound weird on slow speeds

- You can feel the weight of the car when cornering

Likes

- Engine smoothness for a Diesel. No vibrations and the noise coming from the Diesel engine is barely noticeable.

- Fuel economy

- Quality ride with standard suspension and 18” wheels

- Interior environment feels really premium. The sport seats are fantastic. It's quite spacious

- The digital key works very well. Even with me and my wife entering the car at same time, the system knows which one will drive the and move the drivers seat to the right position and starts ID9 with the desired profile.

- The HUD it’s not a must-have in my opinion but it works very well, actually. Great definition and it helps a lot with the speed cameras alert and the navigation system.

Dislikes

- Some rattles coming from the front doors

- the climate system needs to be refined. The gap between each step is too big.

- the HK sound system is very disappointing.

Note: 5000 km with the car and until now zero issues with ID9. It works flawless with Apple CarPlay or with other apps or BMW Maps, for example.

Phev 30e here as well and agree on most of your points

Pros

- ID9 for me has been relatively trouble free, fingers crossed it stays that way and gets even better with future software updates

- Smooth and powerful, pretty good on corners without a lot of body roll

- After tweaking, surprisingly decent sound system for just the standard one

- Economy is really good as most of my journeys are electric, with just a few miles on petrol

Cons

- random not being able to open the charging flap, thought it was just a fault on mine

- don’t like the touch screen approach to access functions on the car. For a Phev who thought not having a physical button to change from electric to petrol was a good idea. Don’t get me started on lane change or speed limit warning buried in the menu!

I have a '24 X1m35 that is as loaded up as it can be - including compound brakes.

Fun to drive.

Auto stop/start and DCT engagement delays when not in Sport mode is a slow and dangerous issue.

I've heard the head unit for software and iDrive have been updated for MY25, but if that issue isn't resolved, I would not buy this vehicle unless you spend an hour or more driving it and determine you don't care about the start/stop delay.
