I did the upgrade on my 20i and everything went very smooth. No issues or glitches.

Got mine today! install went smoothly with zero problems. Luckily, as an iX1 I do not face the hesitation problem mentioned by many here

Software update failed

I bought a brand new X1 in July 2023, last Friday attempted the Remote software update, it failed and message came up to call roadside assistance. Luckily i was at home. Got towed on Sunday and taken to dealers on Monday. Still no sign of it back
3 months old and car is gone for a week already, completely dead and dealer is avoiding my calls as they can't seem to fix it!!

Is it a USA vehicle with 8.5 or UK vehicle with 9.0 or other?

That's terrible, I hope you get it resolved soon.

US X1's aren't getting 8.5 at all.

No 8.5 programmed for.X1 at this time. It's either 8 or 9(uk only, worldwide from November)

So which system/country is Orla2509 referring to? Is it 8.0, 8.5 or 9.0?

8.0 with a software update going from 03/2023 to 07/2023. The system update is not an incremental update, and not a system-wide upgrade (e.g 8.0 to 9.0, or 8.0 to 8.5)

All X1 will NOT receive 8.5 at all. If your X1 comes with the Android-based head unit, then you should be able to update to 9.0 in the next month or so. If your head unit is not android-based, then you will only receive incremental updates to OS 8.0

It’s either 8 or 9. U11’s aren’t eligible for 8.5 at all according to BMW corporate. Their profile says based in Ireland, so it could be either depending on production date and/or engine choice.

can the vehicle get OTA updates if it's not driven much? in the last 30 days, my X1 was only drive about 60 miles total. most of the time it just chill inside my garage. I remember reading somewhere that the updates are only downloaded during driving.. or am I remembering this wrong?

thanks!

I think the updates are downloaded to my phone when I'm connected to wifi, and then when you get in the car it transfers over and you can begin the update process.

Thanks for confirming that Orla. The mobile browser version doesn't show the profile location.

Regarding to the download process, the update is first downloaded to the phone if you click on the notification that you receive in myBMW app that there is an update.

Then you have to go to the car and connect to it via bluetooth & wifi and drive while connected so that it will transfer the update wirelessly.

After the transfer is complete, you can park the car and it will show a message on the car's screen to start the update. You click it, it goes through a list of requirements and if everything is ok, it starts the update.

During the update all sorts of sounds and lights happen inside/outside the car. Fans blowing in engine, in cabin, screens going on/off etc. You get the update progress on the screen. After it finishes it will reboot the system and tell you that everything is ok and you need to drive 1 more time in order to connect to online services.

In some cases the yellow engine light appears which is just a generic error and goes away either in some hours by itself or if you reboot the system (holding the volume rocker for 30 sec)

I have my first scheduled oil change due in 700 miles, so probably late November or early December. I’m curious if the US dealers have an update that isn’t available OTA yet.

I am surprised about the update.
For sure the headup is better in terms of quality
I am almost sure the some fonts are changed
The pedestrian protection while reversing works
So far i had 500kms after the update - no issues at all
And yeah few things on the map

What kind of quality enhancements did you notice on the HUD? I’ve had the update for a couple of days now, and I’ve only noticed the change in font. That being said, I’ve only been using the HUD on the navigation view so far since the update.

I went through all the release notes for this update but unfortunately there is no mention of the comfort access they promised with this update (the one where the seats go back upon parking to allow for easier exit and entry into the car). Hopefully in the next one!

that kind of feature brought back painful memory for me.

I forgot which make/model had it. When I was younger, my aunt's male partner had one in his new car. I once sat in the seat behind the driver's seat on a long trip. I was asleep when they pulled into a rest area. While he was getting out, the seat started moving back automatically and my knees ended up jammed up against the seatback. It was funny but painful. I was 189cm.

Ouch! At 189cm, this would be painful even in an X7! I wonder if they’ve improved this feature by stopping it from functioning when there is a passenger in the seat behind the driver. Would be common sense!

Considering the seat occupancy sensors seem to be standard, I would hope this is the case!
