Collected my car this week and agree with John27. I have had a lot of BMWs before but because of comments by others in reviews I was expecting issues with the ride, the lack of the idrive controller I have been used to and the stop start feature being annoying all being points of possible concern.
None of them have been an issue for me, the new X1 is a fantastic car leaps and bounds ahead of the old X1. BMWs are so well thought out and great cars to drive. Last edited by Yorksdales66; 01-06-2024 at 01:27 PM.. |

![]() Lack of idrive and stop start are not an issue for me either, you adjust quickly if you’re willing to, and if you’re not willing to then…better get used to keeping an older car! |

if you are thinking of buying a BMW with the expectation that you'll get this cloudy plush ride, then you are looking at the wrong manufacturer, and should look at Mercedes or Range rover, or Cadillac instead. |

not sure about the 2024...
on the U.S. 2023 X1, M Sport suspension("fake" adaptive, not user-adjustable) came only with the M Sport package. However, it could be deleted and the buyer would get $500 off and the standard suspension. X1 with X-Line could not be ordered with M Sport suspension and came with standard suspension. |

In a lot of cases, when a brand new car is being shipped and transported to the dealership, there are shipping blocks, also known as suspension limiters. These are installed in the suspension to limit movement and are supposed to be removed as part of the PDI (pre delivery inspection), but very occasionally are overlooked and delivered to the customers with them still left in. Leaving them in can cause the ride to feel stiff and can actually be dangerous to the driver.

When a car is shipped some put blocks into the suspension to stop them bouncing around so much. In very rare circumstances some forget to remove them, which can lead to higher ride and very stiff suspension. But not sure they do this no the X1.

Coming from a 23 x-line to a 24 Msport, I have to say that the Msport is a much better and comfortable ride than the xline. I had 20 inch wheels on both cars and they were pretty much specd the same. I was really nervous about Msport suspension but it actually feels like it handles much better than the x-line! It's softer, but it's not harsh at all! When I would go over speed bumps in the xline, it felt like I was slamming into a pothole sometimes, but in the Msport it feels pretty smooth. Not sure how to describe it. It's definitely stiff but in a better way? And less body roll! Also side note, I completely hated the alcantara sport seats, but these veganza sports seats are even more comfortable than the xline regular seats!!

maybe softer isn't the word? But when I go over pot holes and speed bumps it doesn't feel like I'm smashing into the gravel like it did in the xline so that's what was surprising to me.

Ride is pretty smooth
I find the X1 to have a pretty comfortable and quiet ride compared to the two G20 330Xi M Sports I had prior. My wife and I used to grit our teeth when driving over railroad tracks or rough roads. The X1, while not luxurious or floaty, is much better.

then I again, I drove to New York City and Newark a few times. That area has some of the worst roads on the East Coast. I didn't feel that my X1 with the M Sport Adaptive(Fake) suspension was too firm. Although that's probably due to the 18" tires. |
