Much as I loathe the ASS and will continue to take steps to defeat it (I’ve every intention of buying this device) it’s interesting to know that annoying thing really does save fuel. https://fb.watch/vYWhBhIubf/?

my current X3s i can still use bimmercode but after the last idrive update Ive been trying to condition myself to tap the sport button (found out I can tap before or after starting which is good) but even with it only being one tap I keep forgetting, especially if Ive used remote start and its the first stop light i come to that it reminds me i forgot and I get annoyed - and sounds like its even 1 more step in the X1s so to me it's worth it if there is a plug in / or coding way to disable ... won't go the route of hardwire though |

As much as I hate start/stop, but it does serve a purpose - especially in the UK. Firstly, start/stop is part of the way manufacturers meet emission targets. Secondly, in the UK, it is an offence to have an engine running unnecessarily on a public road (Highway Code Rule 123) for more than 2 minutes (fine is £80 in parts of London - less in other parts of the UK). Finally, it is meant to save up to 7% fuel according to the American Automobile Association (in 2022).
All that considered, I'd rather have the option of switching it permanently off. |

This is for the record, in case anyone searches for a thread on disabling the start/stop and needs a success story:
I installed the physical tuner from Taiwan available on eBay, I'll link it below. It works so perfectly. Don't let the directions being in Mandarin dissuade you. The pictures and the writing on the tags taped to each electrical wire explain how to install it. But to explain: 1. Make yourself at home in the passenger foot well. 2. Pop off the quarter panel. 3. Immediately under the glove box, release the panel that contains the small light for the foot well, by turning to unlock two small plastic locks. 4. Remove the single electrical connector harness from the wiring harness panel, as pictured in the instructions. 5. Release and pop out the individual 1) black and 2) grey pin banks from the connector housing. 6. Install the two wires from the tuner into pin 33 and pin 34 of the black bank, see writing on tape. They click in place with a particular orientation. 7. Reinstall what you've undone as far as the wiring goes. 8. Unplug the power line to the foot well light, and re-route it through the appropriate wires of the tuner. 9. Replace the quarter panel, and then tuck the small tuner box away above it. 10. Replace the panel with the light. 11. You're done. I have a couple photos but I've been getting an error when I try to upload them. If this gets fixed or i figure out what I'm doing wrong, I'll add them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/14589245650...&segname=11051 |

To you Brandon and anyone else reading - it absolutely transforms the driving experience. I would have paid twice as much for this little tuner. It's a modern marvel of engineering as far as I'm concerned. Praise to the GODS that someone made this and whoever made this, decided to make it for OUR car. And then produce in a way that the rest of us could take 90 min and plug it in too. |

Yup, the one and only change is s/s being disabled. There will be no visual or auditory cue or sign of the change in operation. The menu still offers to disable s/s once and looks no different. The car drives so perfect now. It's beautiful. |

curious - how long have had it installed? Asking because of the comments from SnowCover about his friends experience earlier in this thread ~ seems like the same or similar type of device

And absolutely no disrespect to the fella who reported this problem that his buddy had, but second hand accounts aren't always super accurate. Regardless, I'm probably being too carefree about it and the potential for harm, but the reward is is much too high for me to lose any sleep! Without most of the lag at takeoff that's caused by the car shutting off - it's a totally different car. |

This was one of those jobs that now its over, I don't want to jinx going back in! Plus you're giving me too much credit, I'm no genius! I''m not dumb, but if I was able to do this... literally anyone that's remotely mechanically inclined, has half a brain and is patient can do it too. It's like a total of 5 wires that you click in various places. I could do it with my eyes closed if I had to do it again, it's that easy. |
