Thanks all for the comments! I test drove the M35i and surprisingly it wasn’t the car for us. I think it was just too much power for us. It was difficult to keep it at a reasonable speed in neighborhoods, but admittedly super fun.
I ended up specing an M Sport with the M professional package, so I got the M35i brakes. We’re excited and satisfied that we saved a bunch on our monthly as well. |

I got the x drive 28i. for me, in town driving mostly with no real need for additional horse power. I have owned Mini brand and always got the S. the JCW was gorgeous and with more horsepower but I just cant justify the 10000 extra for the car. I think it is a personal choice. cant go wrong with either. both are plenty fast for fun and safe driving. This is a SAV not a sports car. just my opinion

The new x1 is a front wheel drive vehicle. There's a heavy dose of torque steer with the 2.8. unless there are some drive changes (not brake augmented) to the 35 it has to be really excessive. Besides, the world is burning, drowning, etc before our eyes. MPG should be part of this discussion, no matter what fuel prices are

I don't own an X1 but have driven the 28 base (Rental) that had very comfy seats. The M Sport seats or M35 seats felt stiff under my thighs. Someone commented above that a standard X1 can be ordered with paddle shifters where in the US you need M sport. The standard 28 cannot shift with the toggle switch as it will not hold a new gear for more than a few seconds (That is why I am not a current owner for now). I would order the 28 with the smaller wheels for NY comfort versus the larger wheels or M sport personally but I have less experience here. I have tons of experience with many cars driver assist systems and the professional package on the BMW is fantastic. Go for the Professional package 100%. The lane keep assist works far better than the plus or highway driving.

Looking at the US website, both X1’s have xDrive not FWD unless that is a mistake.
I currently have a G87 M2 manny & a G42 M240 xDrive. Looking to add another Bimmer…. The Wife currently drives a Mk8 Golf R DSG, so we are looking at the X1 M35, but we are also looking at the X3 M50. These posts were very helpful for me before we go on test drives ourselves. Thanks y’all and happy motoring! |

You should test drive both. I did and ended up going with the 28i with the sport seats over the 35i. Although the 35i felt a bit quicker, it mainly came down to ride and seat comfort for me.
