I do agree there are a sea of resumes out there right now and college grads are low on the list -- but not in every industry or every area of the country. The hot fields and profession are still hot. I believe in a lot of fields, once you hit the 5yr experience mark things change and it takes about that long to build up to a salary of about 70K depending a lot on the profession/industry you are in. I have a cousin who is a forensic accountant -- and yeah she had to get a BA, then she had to get a graduate degree and pass CFA and CPA but she did this over a 5/6 yr period plus she is very, very good at her job and now pulls about 110K -- having a brain and being in a profession that is in demand helps I also know a few who are went into nursing and do very well at about 80K/yr but what surprised me the most was someone I met who was a diesel mechanic and whose brother is auto tranny specialist and they both make 125K A lot will depend what is in demand and what will have future demand. For example, in IT you are better off going into software/network security versus just building some servers and if really want to program, it better be in a hot area like Mobile Computing. Short of attorneys and some people who go directly onto wall street, few professions make big bucks by just getting a degree. |

its basically just like product design. designing bottles, containers, packaging concepts...the such, its cooler than it seems lol. i dont think you can study Package Design as a major, youd have to do Industrial Design which covers that area...Industrial Design branches into lots of design areas such as cars, toys, packages, furniture, jewerly

I agree with it being hard to be able to get a job fresh out of college that pays 70K. But 15 yrs to advance to 70K?! I'm going to say more like 5 years. This is from the experience of people I know and myself.

Do what you like. Look for a job that you have potential in going somewhere (moving up salary wise). You dont want to start with a decent salary but not have anywhere to go.

Best of luck to whatever you do. A general business degree will do good. But, try and focus in on getting a business degree that make you standout from the crowd. If you really want to start out at 70k+ then why not go balls out and stay in college for another 2 years? Masters degree WILL fetch 70k+ if not more very easily. Btw good if you really want to be a car salesman then you better know your shit.

Go into real estate right now. Buy a bunch of undervalued properties and rent them out. People are already taking advantage of the interest rates and buying homes so the demand is going up again.

Im not looking for a job right now, who knows how the economy will be in 2 years. Bachelors in business is what I'm sure I will go for. Just don't know exactly what I would want to do and was looking for suggestions to open my mind up a little.

You need a bachelor to be a nurse? I thought you just go take the program at a JuCo or CC and take the exam to get in. At least that's what a bunch of kids I knew from HS did.

all depends on the field....A lot of money with good potential is a sales job, in relatively recession-proof arenas. Brand pharma used to be like that, but obviously not anymore.
The corporate world is tough to move up in quickly in terms of salary - to really make big jumps you have to move around companies, which isn't ideal right now...I was fortunate that I jumped up in salary pretty quickly and I made 80K 3 years out of school, and now moving onto a job where I'll be pulling in 6 figures (4 years out of school, but I have to move to a high-cost area so I lose something there). Keep in mind I'm not even in a finance job and I "only" have a BA in econ. Cost of living can also affect corpororate salaries...so 6 figures in orange county would be like 70K in florida (not exact, but you get the idea). But even a lot of money won't hide your disdain for a shitty job for THAT long. Build your career choice along what you WANT to do, not what the pay scales are. just my .02 |

Instead of focusing on the money, why don't you think about what you LIKE and ENJOY?
If you find your passion, success will definitely follow. That's what I did. I read an article last year that said 80% of Americans HATE their jobs. P.S. - Owing your own business is the best way to go, IMO - but you need experience in the field you choose first. |

BTW, OP, 70K isn't really a lot of money, especially in a higher COL market. |
