i think they are just saying that the models mentioned in the article will be available as an option. i dont think this means the end of BMW, i think they are just talking up their green technology stuff. also this is an article for the UK, we dont even have the 320d here.

What did they do? Looks like they hired some c-class designers. have faith in bmw people. I really hope the new 3 doesn't look like that. They do make some great cars. I hope they can do it again. I can say my e46 had a better driving experience than my e92, but the e92 is still tons of fun. I hope they don't loose their way.

I'm glad I bought mine now rather then later....Sorry but I'm all in for the environment just not for driving. If that was the case I would have bought a SMART car.

I actually kinda like the look...but it's still a photoshop and discussing its merits is rather pointless.
For the 3-series which is their top seller and for the "regular luxury car buyer", this is a good step in the right direction. I feel like Audi and MB have already made leaps ahead of BMW already and BMW's the one's playing catch-up now...at least in terms of technology. Quote:

What leaps have Audi and Merc made that BMW hasn't? BMW is not playing catch-up on technology at all...in fact, it is usually the case that MB and Audi are copying from BMW. This article is just a bunch of BS. "A senior BMW source" could be anybody. And until the author provides the name, I'm just going to write this one off as non-sense. How the hell are they going to get power out of a three-cylinder engine when they keep making their cars fatter and fatter? I really wouldn't put any credibility into this article whatsoever.

do some of you people even speak english? Some of the comments are like coming from 12 year olds, i'm not kidding.
if you are for environment you should buy Smart car?? Why not cooper D, why not prius, inisght, Leaf, Volt, any 1er with ED, Blue motion VW cars, etc etc et fakin cetera. some say car looks ugly (read its a free photoshop!) or they hired C class designers... holy uncomrehension... some say its bye bye to 3series (where does it even say that?!!) Looks like the modern way of reading (only headlines) is the reason why some people comment without even reading the article!!!! Same way they got 240hp out of 4 cyl engine when 50 was the norm decades ago. Better tech, forced induction, whatever. AS Ford said, if he would do what's expected, he'd just build a faster horse. People are innovating, thank gawd BMW is actually trying to do this, that way we will have new cars that actually drive well and look good. If you leave the job to Toyotas and Tatas, I bet the result will be a car for people who dont' care how their cars look or drive. Look at Prius, look at Nana. Design for people with no imagination who see cars as utilitarian objects. Now that's NOT what this article is about in the slightest.

The picture is only a guess!!!!!!!!
stop acting like it will look exactly like that!!!!!!!!!!! that said, I think this is a great direction for BMW, but once BMW is pardoned and no longer must meet 35.5 MPG average (BMW + mini) in the U.S. (very likely) then these drastic changes will be scrapped. |

There is no need to worry. If BMW will do bad cars they will anyway be the best of what is out there. I would like BMW to have a supercar, but it is more important to have a good volum-seller car. BMW is a Leader an others follow. Wait and you'll see Mercedes and VW (Audi) will make 3 cylinder engines. BMW is going in the right direction (if there is any at all), they just should not forget their origine and their main goal: The Ultimate Driving Machine.

I read that the M1 hommage concept was going to be a "full green car" with cylinders you can turn of and stuff like that. It would be so cool to do that lol. just cruise along on like 4, and power up the other 6 or 8 when you need em ;D MPG there you go |

I know, it is sad. At least Porsche will be Porsche forever. And even though I was always more in love with BMW than Porsche, I may have to fall in love with a brand that has kept loyal to its traditions since its inception. Porsche 911 here I come!!

First of all the impression is from Autocar's on artists. and not representive of BMW.
Secondly the car will not be launched next year because we have not even commenced full prototype testing and that takes two years especially now with our indepth development and testing programme. And thirdly BMW chose to go the direction because our home market in Europe will be introducing stricter legislation further down the line. In Europe BMW sell more 3er than any other country. The 3er makes up not only larger consumer sales but government fleets , Police Fleets and business fleets. all use the BMW 320d. Not significant to the USA but BMW has other purposes outside of the USA that are more relevant to Europeans. BMW has not lost it's focus or it's direction. It is a company that is adapting to the times and whilst the progressive increase with Efficient Dynamics being spread throughout the BMW Portfolio including the M Division. A BMW will still remain a BMW. Quote:
