As the great Vince Vaughn so aptly put it:

I would have a field day if my ex did that to my vehicle.

Watching her spend thousands on attorney's fees defending the criminal charges against her would be worth the damage to my vehicle.

The motive is there, but what if there was not enough (or none) evidence linking her to the actual crime.. Say she broke the windows with a hammer, and ran, in the middle of the night. No witnesses.. Your insurance would soak up the cost of the damage, and I couldn't really see her getting pinned with the crime unless you hired the top forensics team in the country... Just curious..

I'm the fifth generation in my family to practice law in Buffalo. I know most of the Judges, assistant DAs, and the DA was my Father's classmate in Law school. He was at my first wedding.

Needless to say, the legal community is fairly tight nit in any city, especially one the size of Buffalo.

I'm pretty confident we'd make 'em stick without having to use my Ahhnold accent.

So she'd be forced to pay for a lawyer to defend herself, probably end up paying for the damage, even though scientifically it was not proven she was there, solely because you are buddies with the DA's and court system??

What happens if one day you break up with a girl and the next day your envious Lexus-owning neighbor keys your car. Of course you would think the ex did it. As much as I would wish the ex to get hit by a Mack truck and get hit with huge financial penalties for doing your best friend, it doesn't seem justified to hit her with this without having the proper evidence that she did it...

Just curious, it just doesn't seem right...*

*I'm not trying to offend anyone or argue, I am just interested and want to have an intelligent conversation about this.. We could start another thread about this if Lux needs more convincing to move the hell on..

The reality of the situation is if someone is crazy enough to destroy your car because they are pissed off at you, it wouldn't be that difficult to figure out who did it.

All you would really have to do is find out where the paint was purchased from, and you would have a fairly good start to figuring out who vandalized your car. If she was stupid enough to pay with a credit card, case closed.

If she paid with cash, all you would have to do is go to every paint seller in the area with her picture and see if anyone remembers selling pink paint in the last 48 hours.

Not to mention, she keyed your car... Get her keys and see if there is any paint on her keys.

I think it would be unlikely that she would have been wearing gloves, considering the fact that from the picture there was no snow on the ground, the car did not have snow tires on, and the license plate is from North Carolina, so most likely you would be able to lift a print from the vehicle. The car also looked like it had been recently washed so if there were prints they would be easy to lift with no dirt/dust to cloud the imprint. Also, where the "FUCK YOU" was on the hood, it would be very difficult to carve the letters into the paint without putting a hand down to steady yourself.

Depending on the time of day I'm guessing there had to be at least one witness because it appears as though the car was parked in a lined public parking lot, not a private garage. I'd ask the neighbors if they saw the make and model of my ex’s car in the area.

If the event occurred late at night, I would demand an alibi from my ex, and put the alibi under the scrutiny of a ADA's investigation. If it was during the day, I'd find out if she called in sick from work. Or just call the alibi up to put the fear of God into them, reminding that person of the penalties of perjury. Needless to say, it would have to be a pretty close friend for that person to be willing to lie to the authorities for her. I know I wouldn't.

Also the front of the car was parked right up next to some dirt. I would see if there were any dirt samples that could be found on the bottom of high heeled shoes that match the dirt at the crime scene.

There was also lot of broken glass. I would have her checked to see if she had any cuts on her body that could have resulted from shattered window glass.

This isn't rocket science.

Lux, I think you already know what you should do. But it's just hard to do what is good for you. The best thing to forget about a girl is to be with another. Go out and have fun! Don't waste your time on this girl... sounds like you already wasted 4 years. It may sound harsh but I only speak from experience dude.

And don't run away to Korea... You might get stuck at the Red Light District (588).

No, I agree this isn't rocket science. I was more interested in the connection with the DA's, judges, etc, than the actual evidence linking her to that scene. While fighting speeding tickets using science in court I have witnessed lawyers just walk up to the judge, ask how they shot a round of golf, and the case is thrown out. I was just curious if this was enough to get her to pay for the damage, but it looks like even though you have the connection you still would go about connecting her to the scene..

PS. You forgot handwriting recognition.. How she keyed the car it is extremely obvious how she makes her letters..

PPS. I was one stop shy of going forensic examiner and became a mechanical and aerospace engineer instead (rocket science)..

PPPS. Looking back, I should've gone forensic science, I'm pretty bored of engineering..

Speeding tickets are a joke to get out of. Most time you plea them down to parking tickets so the town gets the money rather than the State.

You actually have to work if you want to get someone convicted for a crime.

And I thought about the handwriting, but they were printed block letters, and I doubt an expert would be able to match it up because there would be no tendencies to compare to.

In the F, she made the top of the F as two separate lines. When I write an F, my top line and vertical line are one continuous motion. So there is a sharp corner rather than two lines with overhangs like hers. Her K and Y, the segments of the letters overhang the vertical and diagonal portions of the letter a lot. If these traits were similar when analyzing some of her other handwriting samples, it wouldn't hurt the case. Not enough to prove anything on it's own, but wouldn't hurt it... Also, her last U, she brought the letter back down again over itself. I'd be curious to see if she did this in other handwriting. The other U did not have this so she might have just overlapped it to make it darker...

The most important piece of evidence in these pictures is the fact that it was an e46 M3. Whoever did this damage deserves the death penalty..
