If I was out of college and had a great job I would have the disposable income to donate. But, I really can't at the moment.

Regardless of what some people think, there are still children and women who are suffering there and elsewhwere around the world. I've given countless hours of my time working with at risk youth right here in our country and half of them still end up on the wrong path. Is it fair for me to say "they're not my problem", no because indirectly they are, and if we don't collectively do something about it the problem will only get worse.

My point is when the world can hear a small Nation chant U-S-A, doesn't that give you a sense of pride? A feeling like past all the criticisms and doubt, during a financial crisis that has paralyzed our economy, someones life is worth something more? If I give $50 it won't break me but it may save someone's small innocent life.

You're actions today will determine what happens tomorrow...

Problem is in my opinion Haiti's infrastructure is too fucked up to properly handle donations. Massive amounts of rations are being stolen off relief trucks by bandits etc... We can throw money and supplies at them to try to help, but until they are ready to change, Haiti will always be in some form of trouble. Did I donate, yes. Do I like Haiti, no. But mankind is mankind.

Just curious. For the people who donated or are going to donate, where was your sense of charity/do-right in Haiti before the earthquake?

We have enough problems/poverty here domestically. In an event like this (a massive natural disaster) I rationalized that my donation would go to pay for MREs and bottled/filtered water. Just enough to tide them over until they can go back to scraping by as usual. Outside of this incident, there's no reason for us to do for Haitians what they could (and should) do for themselves.

We need to send aid in the form of troops+food. No point in sending money to a government that isn't functional.
