6-2, 155, and you wear a 42? I was expecting for that frame at most a 40. Regardless, make sure it fits properly. Jo's A Banks usually has great deals like buy one get one free etc...

Simply put, Dress for success, a couple people gave you some really good advise on what to buy. If you feel good in what you wear then you would feel good about what you do and how people see you. If you look a mess then people think your a mess and do not go good work.

I have every day cloths which are just comfortable to wear. Then I have the good stuff which I know I will have for a long time and will not go out of style and I can always reach into my closet and put on and know I will look good and feel good. There are just some good classic cuts and colors to have the only thing which is had to have that stays in style and looks good are ties, but a tie is about the easiest thing to run to a store and get if what you have in the closet does not look good.

Companies hire consultant to either provide them new ideas or do a bunch of grunt work. Do you wan to be seen as the idea person or the person that are going to hide in the back room and just crank out stuff. How you dress will dictate where you end up.

First off go to a respectable tailor, don't say a word about your suit size and see what they put you in. Unless all your weight is in your shoulders/chest (and since you used the term "scrawny", I'm guessing not) that sounds too big.
For comparison, I'm 6'2" and 165/170lbs. I wear a 38R or 38L depending on suitmaker.

For the starters like you, it's best to buy all range of neccessities first before getting into expensive suits or what not.
Then you would start seeing what you wear the most and what you wear the least. Drop the ones you don't wear much, then start investing more money in the stuff you use more often, build your collection.
I find off-sacks fifth ave very nice to start your collection as they range alot of designer suit people prefer. Hugo boss range ~$300 and burberry and zegna ranges from $400~500.

I was actually very surprised when I found the EXACT same suite that I looked at hugo boss in norstrom priced at $800 for $300 in off sacks. And yes, I found them on the same week.

Off 5th and Nordstrom Rack are very good places.

Never go to Kohl's for dress clothing. It never lasts and you look like you are in 7th grade going to a dance. Men's Wearhouse is the way to go for good mid-level clothing.

I'm IT, and wear business casual every day. I get MOST of my pants from Costco. Dockers, etc. in all kinds of sizes, for usually less than $20 if you're willing to dig for your size in the piles. There are usually some blues, greys, and browns to be found in each style.
I get away with polo shirts, and Costco also has some nice PGA, higher end ones for often under $30.
I go to the local outlet mall and get Rockport shoes. So what, the classic styles don't change, and you can get a nice pair of black and brown for under $200 total. Get the black first, you can ALWAYS wear black shoes.
