E60. Looks better, rides better... and definitely sounds better.

HAHA... My friend in St Lucia had the transmission problem. He had to have the car shipped to California.... The total for all this after the fix was around $22,000(USD).........

Thats why I told my dad not to get 1, I said play it safe with a M3....

I don't like to "bash" on cars, everyone has their own taste and preferences, but I've always thought the GTR design was some cruel joke that Nissan decided to sell for 80k. I can't think of any super-esque car of recent memory that looks more unsightly.

I think the car looks like a g35 on steroids.

Had a e60 m5 for 3 years, now on my 1st month with a '11 gtr:
M5:
amazing engine, amazing sound at all revs/speeds, amazing pull from 6000rpm to redline (never runs out of breath)
compliant ride, quiet enough
room for 4
great paint quality, high leather/interior quality
super predictable to drive/easy to track and super fun and easy to get sideways
included maintenance
crap idrive/nav
not sporty driving position
5-series are everywhere/boring

gtr
insane 0-80 acceleration...insane!
even faster with minimal mods
amazing awd, grip, grip, grip
super stiff, really loud tires
decent interior (leather/materials)
great NAV/electronics/gauges
very unique...instant celebrity
poor paint quality (unless super silver is ordered)

They're both great...drive both! You can't go wrong with either...

I would go with GT-R. But if I did not have another family car then I would go with M5. The GT-R is near super car level where as M5 is one of the best performance sedans. ^ I also agree with the poster above I have driven M5 on many instances as my best friend owned one. The car looks nice and has great performance but with so many M sport 5 series every where the car does not feel exclusive as it did when it first came out. The GT-R for sure gets way more looks.

The GTR's looks are underated, I was and still am a fan of nissan, but found the looks of the GTR ugly till I saw one in person. I've got to say they look nice upclose and not in the pictures.

But comparing an awesome sports sedan to a supercar is not a fare comparison. I'd say for fun GTR for practicallity and fun M5.

Whoever votes for GT-R should not be allowed on this forum. It's not a car it's a Playstation console. My grandmother could turn a sub 8 minute lap of the Nordeschliefe in one. How can something that does everything for you be fun and rewarding? Guess it would make a decent commuter if you have lots of rush hour traffic but that's about it.

I think YOU shouldn't be allowed on this forum. Its fanbois like you that make this forum looks stupid. You truly are an incompetent and misinformed person while coming to cars. I am surprised you were smart enough to buy a Z4.

And if you think a GT-R is a Playstation, wtf is a 599 or 458? Fricking Playstation 4000000?

599 and 458 are RWD. Their electronic nannies can all be turned off. 599 even has a proper 3-pedal transmission.

I've driven many of the dual-clutch trannies on the market today and they just sap the driving experience away just like an automatic. The paddles are like hitting the buttons on a gaming controller, what kind of link with the car can you make with one of those?

Same deal with the torque-vectoring/yaw AWD systems out now, they just take away any sort of feeling of "wow, I just clipped the apex on that corner perfectly due to my own driving ability!" The last proper AWD system was on the 04 Mitsu Evo 8 RS where it was 100% mechanical (no electronics at all) with a locked non-adjustable 50/50 torque split.

I want to *earn* my lap times, not have them given to me on a silver platter.

So because of dual clutch, which allows the driver to focus more on driving, you are dismissing the car as a whole?

Gosh those people that drive Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Koenisgsegg, F1 must really feel disconnected from the road.

If that's how you feel, you're not driving fast enough.

Apart from possibly price, where else are these two cars similar or should be considered as alternatives to each other??????????

It's like someone asking which should I pick, a Aston Martin DBS or a Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed?

You shouldn't get so mad at fanbois appearing on fansites.

To expect anything else is ludicrous.

I don't hate fanbois. I mean we are all on this forum part of bimmerpost, not Audipost. But still, I except someone to come in with an opinion that at least makes sense with founded arguments.

Saying that a 599 and 458 are too easy to drive... Yes, they might allow you to focus more on the road, but it does not mean you will be good with it.
