OP, you did not specify what Island you are going to.... Hawaii is not a single piece of land.

And Staying for $90-150 is totally possible. I stayed at a killer place on Maui (Napili Bay) for $107/night last year. I've stayed there few years before for about $130. Right on the water, freshly remodeled, all new furniture, kitchen stainless steel appliances and a 50" plasma on the wall.

what island? i normally spend 2-2.5 months a year on the big island... there is NOTHING that cheap unless you want to stay in some shit area in the middle of Kona... the higher up resorts in my area go from $400-$1200 a night for the normal rooms and private bungalows go for $3,000-$6,000 a night

but I'm sure there are things for $200-$300 in the same area, but you got to pay to play honestly when it comes to hotels there..

You can get rooms at a Four Seasons for $500-600. $1200 is suite rates and complete overkill. If you're spending enough time in your room that you care whether it's a 3 star or 5 star, you should just stay on the mainland because you're missing the point...

I have. My grandfather had some time share thing going on so I don't remember the rates. That place was INCREDIBLE! The views are great, the rooms are nice, and it's easy to spend an entire day being lazy in that place. If I was going back to Honolulu any time soon I'd stay there again.

The time of year you are going should be a bit cheaper. October through March is stupid expensive. And FWIW, the Big Island is the best island. If you can afford to island hop, I would strongly advise spending atleast two days there. The Manta Ray Night Dive was by far the coolest thing I have EVER done. And I have dove all over the world. The waters around Hawaii are the most pristine I have seen next to the Indian Ocean (Thialand) and the Caribbean (Grand Cayman Island).

It all depends on how long you stay.. Trust me, I'm in the ocean/on the beach 7-9 hours a day when I'm there, but I like to come back to a nice room.

Honestly, I would stay away from both. Nothing but a tourist trap.

The only place on Oahu worth staying is North Shore, but there is nothing much to do there, unless you are a REALLY REALLY good surfer.

Ever been to Bora Bora? My experience has been that Bora Bora has even more pristine water than those places you mentioned.

the hilton hawaiian village is where the lakers used to stay when they did their preseason exhibitions..for all outward appearances its a nice place..never been in the rooms but im certaint hey are nice...its not on the 'strip" of waikiki ..about 10 minute walk depending on how fast you walk...but it is between the ala moana shopping center (biggest and best mall in hawaii) and the waikiki strip...i suppose you can just find a cheaper hotel because im assuming your not spending most of the time in there anyway..if you want modern sleek type venue look up the 'edition'...its close by to the hilton... they took an old hotel and revamped it..modern rooms and lounges and restaurant.

clubs: pearl (in the ala moana shopping center)
bars: mai tais ( also in ala moana)
very accessible to tourists but still very frequented by locals.. pearl is the nicest club we have, and mai tai is a nice out door bar that plays local live music i think nightly...very popular. standing room only during weekend nights.

restaurant: roy's. nuff siad.

these reccomendations are places id like to go to if i were visiting for the first time..ofcourse theres alot of others places but generally speaking these places are always a 'hit'

if your the indie artsy fartsy type. theres a 'frist fridays' venue in downtown honolulu...but idk if youll be here on the first friday of the month. you dont even have to be artsy fartsy its just a bunch of chic people congregating all over downtown so the bars and restaurants are busting those days.

That is one place I haven't visited yet. So I cannot say yes or no. But looking at the scuba trips offered on the island looks AMAZING! Mantas, turtles, and sharks is what its all about.

So jealous right now. Even though that is not the island I frequent, I would much rather be there than in Arizona. Have fun man, Hawaii is effing awesome!

When I have to go to Honolulu for work, I usually stay at the Waikiki Beach Marriott. Late August rates are probably around $190-$210.

Oahu is so much fun. I stayed at the Marriott 2 yrs ago. There's also fees to park at the hotel. If you want to be right on the beach, I would stay at the Outrigger and be sure to check out Duke's restaurant for steak and lobster. Go to the Dole plantation for one of the biggest maze and fresh pineapples. Check out North Shore for some high tides and surfing and gotta love those shrimp vans. And of course spend a whole day at the Luau...Have fun and take lots of pics.

The Maldives, Thailand, Palau, and the Seychelles are nice as well but this thread is about Hawaii.
