I think it'd be too confusing to try to change it now. Both were great images and this one has apparently struck a popular chord. I would have voted for either, but if Sideways were put up now I couldn't vote for it, since I've already voted, as have many others.

Yeah, it was a tough poll and a few mistakes were made. Still, anyone that's done it before will appreciate the effort that went into putting it together, flaws and all...

Would it be better for us to submit the photos (some forums keeps a section in the photo uploads for things like this) rather than posting them in a thread. Plus, it would keep everyone from seeing the photos until the contest voting starts. Just a thought

I know we can't do this through the forums here (that I know of), but I think it would be cool to have a weighted vote (3 points to your first pic, 2 for second, 1 for third).

Needless, 34 entries on a topic that was rather difficult (IMO) is rather awesome in itself.

A couple of us have discussed this previously, albeit privately, and this forum setting has a lot of restrictions and annoyances that prevent us from having a fair, easier, and scalable submission and voting process. It can be frustrating sometimes and takes away some of the fun. Plus, we don't get feedback on our submissions, so we don't learn much. I think those are just some of the flaws of our current system.

At one point, I was think of having a website where we could submit to contests, maybe have some cheap (novelty) prizes, and make it easy to administer and vote. Perhaps we can revisit this possibility again? I would of course need some help/input from some of the forum members here, but I'm sure we can come up with something that would be fun, easy, and provide feedback to improve our skills.

Perhaps we should take this discussion elsewhere (new topic, or general photog thread) so we don't go off-topic on this voting thread.

How does voting work then? I'm not sure what capabilities Flickr offers since I don't use it... perhaps an avid user can chime in.

Ummm as far as the flickr idea goes, someone can just host a page with all the images and then just keep the voting thread in this forum. that way people can open the 2 pages side by side when trying to pick votes.

however, that would mean everyone would have to learn a new way to submit and such. which might be an entire task onto it's on.

Yeah I'm sorry for all the flaws, but this turned out to be a much bigger pain that I expected, I think for the next one we have to find out a smoother way to have it put together. Maybe even limit the photo's? Cause having 30+ to organize is tough

Maybe have 3 different threads? 1) Discussion 2) Submission 3) Voting, because the hardest part was figuring out what was an entry/example/re entry ect.

That may be the way to go. The submission thread should be images only. No discussion, no examples. That way you could open a poll thread and not include the images. Just the image title. People could open the image thread beside the poll thread.

So future contests would have three threads: Images, Discussion\Comments, and Voting.
