NICE and great luck with it. It's a sick looking car no doubt.
I don't think I could ever buy a Benz, it's just not me. I like them a lot, I just could not drive one. Not even sure why to be honest it's just not me. I am sure many of you feel me on that. Peace

Thanks guys
@sticky - We drove them both for a few hours. The CLS felt slightly sharper, stiffer, more solid and planted to the ground than the E63 around town and aggressively in the canyons. Not by a lot, but better. The 63 was faster and braked better, but again not by much. On the highway at higher speeds it felt overwhelmingly better. Plants down and Airmatic drops the car even lower than during city driving, steering is perfect - it's also a heavier car than the E. I was reading an article in either Motor Trend or Automobile that it is better than the last-gen CLS55. This new CLS reminds a little of my E55 (which will always be one of my favorite cars) - but it's not as raw. I might tune it and get the +40hp and 65+ torques - but it just doesn't need it, it has plenty of power as it stands. Pretty impressed with the technology - the Blind Spot Assist is pretty neat and I just can't say enough about the interior.

The W218 CLS63 has a whole different front end (as does the W212 E63; AMG has used the same suspensions in both.) It's clearly noticeable driving it. The W218 CLS550 has Airmatic all the way around and is definitely a softer feel and with less sharper turn-in (btw, Airmatic suspensions always "squat down" on the freeway at high speeds, they're all designed that way.) The W218 CLS63 has a front track of 63.9 inches whereas the W218 CLS550 has a track of 62.8. In addition, it has an entirely different steering rack (and front suspension) than the W218 CLS550. I'm not comparing the new W218 CLS with the past W219 CLS550, CLS55, nor the previous W219 CLS63 (and yes, they went from the previous W219 designation to a new W218 designation, go figure.) And I'm not comparing it to the older W211 AMGs. I'm talking about the W218 CLS550 versus the W212 E63 and the W218 CLS63. The AMGs have different suspensions. The new W218 CLS550 has a softer and less precise suspension than the W212 E63 and the new W218 CLS63. It's a factoid. Do you think Daimler would allow a W218 CLS550 to out handle the more expensive AMG W218 CLS63 or W212 AMG E63? They don't and it's on paper and in the field. And the 2012 W212 E63 will of course have the new 5.5TT AMG motor as does the new W218 CLS63. Sometimes we get rose colored glasses when we get a new car. Anyway, as I said enjoy and drive in good health. |

ok, so this is my dilemma. I am looking to get into either the 640i or the CLS550 as early as next summer (or the summer of 2013 at the latest), since euro delivery is a requirement of my fiancee. What would you choose?
I understand the 640i is down on power but will be ~ 350-400 lbs lighter than the CLS and a 0-62 time of 5.4 is no slouch. Please note that I am not willing to spend 83K + on a 650i, so that is out of question. Also is the A7 a contender? I am indifferent to its styling, but motor trend gives it a better rating than the CLS. Any thoughts?

You got rid of the beautiful E92 M3 for that? I would've supercharged a DCT M3 if I had the money for it,right now.
And those cars don't age well at all, look at the previous CLS vs the previous M3(E46) You chose the merc over even the gorgeous and capable Audi RS5? : A chacun son gout, I guess... |
