Hmm, only diesel engines...
Can we expect an M performance car with a petrol engine in the future? Or will it remain only diesel? If so, I would understand the strategy: M line = full fledged performance vehicles with petrol engines M performance line = high performance high efficiency vehicles with diesel engines Only my speculations... |

These cars are really cool, not liking the M moniker, but since they won't come to the US, they won't skew the M image in this country.

They'll piss off a lot of status-buyers if they let it compete with the (100%) M cars here, badge and all. But in Germany, most cars are debadged anyways, right? If I wasn't a big BMW fan who knew all the little details about BMW because I check Bimmerpost often, I would see that car and believe it was a (100%) M car.

This is a 550i with an m-sport package. Except they put an m badge on it? And it's diesel? Suddenly I seem to want to forgive all the idiots who glue an M badge to the back of their 328's and 525i's. They were obviously way ahead of us in predicting what BMW was going to do to the M letter. |

There will very probably be an M135i and an approx. 340ps M340i to compete against the Audi S4 (M335i would sound too close to basic 335i) at least But expect the M Performance range to extend to many models like the Audi S range.

Have a few questions.
First. Why are they doing it in AWD? Will the M-Performance cars that make it here be available in RWD? Second. Why did they feel the need to create a whole new line. Couldn't they have just have just added an "s" or "is" to the end of the number like they have always done? |

because no American would pay $80K for the MPG bump. Diesel is more expensive than premium, and most people put regular in their BMWs. If you do the math, in US it is more economical to buy the 550i for $62K and take the hit for poor MPG. |
