I went through the same thing as you, except I'm 18 and I have an older brother who is 28.

Long story short
I grew up seeing him at least 7 or so times without knowing he was related to me. He always knew, and to this day I still don't know the full details.

Funny thing was I learned that he was my sibling two years ago before I was about to go overseas to visit my family. I remember he started talking to me about something and he said something along the lines of, "of course, we're brother's after all." All this time I had thought he was just a close family or friend to my family.
Well to this day, neither my brother nor my father will tell me all the details. My brother says he will leave it for my dad to decide when he's ready to tell me.
I met his mother 3 weeks ago.

So I feel like I know where you're coming from
I would take this optimistically, but I would try talking to your father about it first without trying to put him under the spotlight and leaving him under pressure. Maybe he didn't know how to bring it up, and there are a lot of different explanations. Knowing that I have an older brother has probably been one of the best things that I got to experience in its' own sense. We are family after all haha

So after a somewhat emotional conversation with my dad, I have a lot of questions answered some of which I cannot go into detail (even on on the interwebz) but I can say he was very apologetic.

My mom was also somewhat aware, but never spoke of it because she said it's my dad's responsibility to tell me when he felt the time was right.

My sister is aware of me and now the next step is to get the guts to make that call. In all, to all the dads out there give your kid(s) a hug today and tell em you love them cuz you never get today back. (I just though of that saying lol)

Find out as much as you can about her, it will help you avoid awkward moments from an already awkward moment.

If you're interested in knowing about her past ask her first if you can pry. And if you ask then be prepared to tell. People are generally good-hearted unlesa theres a specific reason not to be.

I was in a similar situation and i wish i had better contol of the situation.

Not gonna lie...I may have this same faith awaiting me shortly.

I'm 25 and there was a major issue with my family recently when rumor happened to escape from my fathers mouth and said I have an older sister (around 31)...

After that whole ordeal...I really haven't spoken to them and they have a gift of never addressing the pink elephant in the room...so no one ever wants to speak about the issue. They simply throw more smoke into a room of mirrors.

So yea...I'm sure I'll get a knock on my door at some point in the near future.

It's funny because my wife and I were in bed talking about a year ago...and I just came out and said, "you know what? I wouldn't be surprised if I have some long lost brother or sister!" We laughed about it...but BOOM - becareful what you laugh about lol.

Since we're all sharing a little personal story. I have a half brothe that I only seen maybe 3x, and last time I saw him when I was 10 or so this was some 15 years ago (he is like 8-10 years older). He lived with his mom family and has other siblings, I live with my dad and have 2 sisters. My dad nerver talks about him, never mentions him, I am not aware if he even talks to him. I think his name is jose and my grandma told me he has a son now. since he doesn't reach out to me I don't reach out to him fuck him...
