Do you have the GLI autobahn or just base? I was into the autobahn, but I wonder if the money would be better spent on aftermarket wheels for the base one. |

Autobahn, I think the rims look decent and I gotta have sunroof and dual-zone climate control. The Fender Audio System is okay if you don't use bluetooth. Jetta's bluetooth sucks

I was close to buying a gli, but couldn't get past the tiny nav screen and lack of HD radio when upgrading to Nav. The focus ST is also a good car to look at. Not sure how either of them would hold up.
If the golf came with a good sound system, I probably would have jumped on that. |

i get the idea that vw is really not that unreliable anymore. I got my wife the tiguan and i have to say, i love it. It's fun to drive and it's got utility. Of course it's not a bmw, but for 24k, it's close enough.

Things I liked - it has an IRON engine block, it would be hard to break that. Suspension was very compliant, it wasn't too rough like my current car was at that time. Hope this helps. |

I can't speak to the reliabilty of a 2013 VW GLI. We do own a VW though. A 2007 Jetta Wolfsburg 2.5. The engine though noisy and course has been ROCK solid and I bet you didn't know the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder is ACTUALLY half a Gallardo engine. That's a fact. The auto trans hasn't been an issue either. The problem we've had and why we'll never buy another VW is ever since the car's been outta warranty it's been one electrical problem after another. We have a 2006 Honda Accord also with triple the mileage of the Jetta and have infinitely more confidence in lasting long-term.

My friend has a fully loaded 2012 jetta. Looks good and rides well, not sure about reliability though.
I do prefer a Jetta over a corolla/civic/lancer etc. because there are not as many on the road.

Yes, it is a shame that every car must have their downsides.

yea my friend has the 2012 audi a4. The aesthetics and mechanics are pretty much similar. The Audi is a higher class of course compared to my VW, but I wouldn't spend the price difference to own one. Honeslty, I don't even have the price difference. I could't afford anything more than my Jetta, but even if I could, I still prefer mine over my friends Audi and that's for sure.

Had a 2008 GTI and my ex wife has it now. Car has been trouble free and great. Bought it used with under 14k miles from auction and she loves it. For the money the quality, fit and finish, and fun to drive are truly unmatched if you look at the car as a whole. Some might be quicker but they drive harder and the interior is no where near as nice. The last generation GLI is a little more sporty and has better fit and finish than the gurrent gen and on the used car market you get a lot of car for the money. I would strongly consider one if I were you. This coming from someone who has owned a 2006 e90 330i sport, 2008 X3 Msport, and 2010 328i Sport all with manuals. My sister also had a wolfsberg edition Jetta with the 2.0T and DSG and the car had no issues at all either. The new VWs are much more reliable now and I would easily recommend them to anyone. Feel free to PM me with any questions as I do have experience with the models.
