i wouldn't worry about it too much...my friend, whoi lives in Ladera is freaking out because it was 99 degrees over there.

she sent me the picture and said "pfffft, i bet there is like 10% humidity"

she sent me a screen shot that showeed 48% humidity - i was truly shocked.

so, imagine that heat for about 200 days in a row.....that's Houston weather.....

The other poster was likely just trying to make a point, I don't think it was meant to be taken literally...

Anyway, I know what the thermometer at our spot in Kuwait said when I looked at it. Not saying it should be counted as official, as it wasn't likely an official type of thermometer and that probably has something to do with it. If I remember correctly at the top of the day it was 130 or 131.

Wonderful insight.

I think the real test of the heat would be to measure the elevation of the body temperature of a Soldier in full combat protective gear on a 120+ day in the sun while walking in a town.. I'm sure it feels a lot hotter to them.

No matter how hot you think it is outside, most of you here are still sitting your ass in an air conditioned office all day, then driving home in your air conditioned car to your air conditioned home or apartment. The few minutes you walk to your car and maybe break a small sweat is nothing to bitch about.

oh yeah, i forgot, because there are no such things as weekends where people go outside for activities.....

why do you think Houston has 2 retractable roof buildings !?!?

nobody wants to be at an Astros game at the end of August at 3pm - close the roof, turn the fucking A/C on...

same at Texans games - if it's over 80 degrees, the roof slides over and the A/C goes on...

the city of Houston will NEVER have open roof stadiums - ever.

Oh, I'm sorry, I'll make the correction...

Except on the weekends, where you drive your air conditioned car to a sporting event to get hammered drunk. Very comparable to a Soldier in the Middle East.

Have to agree with you. I tend to plan social activities in the summer evenings and avoid day plans at all costs.

football season hasn't even started and the Astros are drawing less than 15K people a game

you think Houston is a tiny place that only has 2 million people in it or what !?!?

there are over 6 million people in the Houston area. not everybody stays indoors on the weekends....

this weekend i cooked BBQ and stayed outside for 8 hours. it was painful, but like i said in my earlier post, it's more accurately described as dealing with it.....

i've walked around 29 Palms and MCAS Yuma in full gear in August/September for a CAX (combined arms excercise) - it ain't bad because there is no humidity

My attempt at humor was not aimed at those serving in the military in difficult environments, I was mocking myself and others for bitching about the 90 degree heat...

I don't care how many people live in Houston. That has nothing to do with what I'm saying. Maybe the less than 15K per game for the Astros has something to do with their awesome record...

I did some looking around at weather sites for average humidity levels, and I think you'd be surprised at the humidity in Houston compared to the humidity in Baghdad maybe or the ports in Kuwait. Shuwaikh Port, for example. Right now (night time), it's 101 degrees, feels like 105, with 30% humidity.

Walk around the banks of the Tigris or the Euphrates, or work in the ports in the blazing sun in Kuwait, then tell me what you think of the humidity there...

45% humidity
Heat Index 96
1mph winds

Phoenix
12:05PM
101 degrees
8% humidity
Heat Index 95
3mph winds

that statistical data was taken @ the same time frame for each city.

Update.

Phoenix
1:02 PM MST
105 degrees
Heat index 104
20% humidity
Winds 7 MPH

I'll still take this over 90 and humid any day. Oh and that's why I drove 2 hours this weekend and went to the mountains - hit 80 yesterday and that was hottest for 4 days.

I was working down in Imperial County for a solar farm commissioning and it was 112 with 60% humidity due to the tropical storms in the Pacific.

That was ridiculous heat.
