Guys,
that doesn't mean BMW hasn't had a good year. Honestly, I like to see more mercedes in the street than my BMW...gives me a better feel that I'm driving a better/more luxury ended car.... Also, this is a take turning phenomena...German giants don't release their new line ups together...they wait to make sure they can capture more of new and existing market-shares...so currently it was M-B's turn to shine...BMW will soon have its turn again...once the 2 series is out...also, the new X5, new 4 series are expected to sell a lot... ...my 2 cents... |

Hmm being second in one market (the us) by the narrowest of margins is an immaterial loss when you consider bmw will still be #1 globally for 2013. With x5 deliveries still coming up to speed for the new generation, and the two series coming, 2014 should be a strong year as well.

People mock AMG here on the forum, but when was the last time BMW built a flagship supercar? Not to mention MB's Black Series line is a step up from BMW's M line of cars.

I think Mercedes Benz deserves this for 2013. They really stepped it up..

I don't think it has anything to do with the looks of the new BMW ... Mercedes is simply better all around... Quality and luxury and the luxury car buyers acknowledge that...
I have both and if i feel sporty.. I drive my bimmer and If I feel like a million bucks... I ride in my Benz.. |

I am either lazy or uninformed. I like the BMW models and the BMW options.
Maybe a test drive is in order, but does Mercedes have a Bigger Nav screen than they used to and HUD? There are other things that haven't made it seem attractive to me too; I guess I need to do some research. BMW could become like Apple and lose business because an unwillingness to react to market conditions quickly enough and worrying so much about secrecy. For instance, a 2-series Grand Coupe done the right way would be a game changer. But announce it already! |

2015 is all about product expansion and it will also give a full sales run to the new BMW X5 and the BMW i3 which commenced sales in November and is yet to arrive in many markets. This will happen in the first half of 2014. The year of course begins with the most important US show the NAIAS. The new BMW 4er Cabrio also arrives to take advantage of the season change to Spring. As will the all new BMW 2er Coupe. Spring also takes us into Geneva and the important autoshow of 2014 which will bring many firsts such as the BMW 2er Active Tourer and the BMW 4er Gran coupe. Immediately after Geneva the Spring events continue for BMW with the unveiling of the new BMW X4 and LCi of the popular best selling BMW X3. The alternative IAA the AMI in Leipzig will bring a BMW World Premiere or two as will the important Auto China event which takes place in Beijing will not only introduce the new models for the Chinese market but also a new concept car for further product expansion. And given previous Beijing concepts the Gran Coupe and i8 Spyder this reflects something special. Always interesting...Villa d'este. In the Summer we will see the new BMW M3 and M4 arrive on the market, and the LCI of the BMW 1er aswell as the new BMW 2er Cabrio. The halo car for the BMW fleet arrives to the market with the 2014 allocation already sold. The new BMW i8. We will also see the new BMW X6 which will take its world premiere in Moscow given that Russia is a huge market for the current X6. On the M front we will see the introduction of two new M cars which will provide M with new "volume" models. On the sustainable front the first of the eDrive plug in hybrid BMWs will be unveiled with the BMW X5 eDrive and 2er Active Tourer eDrive. And a Cabrio of the BMW M4. Of course there will be events , concepts , innovations, developments periodically throughout the year. Not exactly a slow year expected as it is the precursor to the big news of 2015 - The all-new BMW 7er. We will also see prototypes of the next 5er and Z4 replacement and F30 and F12/F13/F06 LCi's. The other brands have not been forgotten with the introduction of the all-new MINI leading to expansion of a 5dr MINI before the end of the year. Rolls-Royce's Wraith is already sold out into the first half of 2014 and the Ghost receives its mid-life refresh which coincides with the Ghost V-Specification. With the enormous power delivery of the Wraith and a price tag to match.

This interior looks too busy and just plain goofy! The "x" bevel vents look stupid and the disproportionate LCD screen looks ridiculous!

Time to panic, BMW product managers! Clearly the answer is more car models
Not that the crown means anything to people outside of the industry, but I wonder if BMW regrets slow-tracking the 2-series Gran Coupe given the relative success of the CLA and the A3. Either way, that's what happens when you react to market trends instead of setting them.

Losing the #1 crown doesn't mean anything to the customers. It's the brand (ultimate driving machine) and customer loyalty that will count at the end of the day. I will always by a BMW over a Mercedes or an Audi. It's my choice of automobile.
Yesterday I was at the local Porsche dealership because my brother-in-law was buying a used E46 M3 and he wanted me to check it out for him. The '05 E46 SMG has done 66k km and is a carbon black. He bought it. I saw the new 911 Turbo S with chrono package and yellow stitching on black with special wheels already sold for A$500,000. Beautiful car but not practical.

I remember reading somewhere that this was their most successful launch ever, with so many orders that they were having trouble keeping up with demand. However, for BMW, I also read that the Ghost and Wraith were huge successes, but they're also some of the worst cars on the road as far as depreciation. I think I read that the Wraith has the worst depreciation out of any car in the UK (I read on Top Gear, but it might not have actually been #1). It depreciates like 190k pounds in 3 years.

To be honest, the only good Merc interior imo is the new S class. But even then, the steering wheel is ugly as hell, which brings it down quite a lot. Although i haven't seen many pics, the new C class interior isn't that bad, but BMW's is certainly a lot better.

Also, the last time we put out a cool, low volume car was the Z8. And that was no where near a supercar. I think we should put out an M1 successor or at least an M version of the i8 with a big engine. None of this reuse of the 4.4 turbo v8 nonsense. A dedicated, ground built engine. AMG still uses v12s, why can't we? Hell, I'd even be happy with an 850csi successor.

BMW lost their way a couple years ago with the release of the worst ugly car front the 1 series and then the F30 no steering feel suspension too soft (trying be Lexus) and Lexus being the old BMW with steering feel and handling, then the release of the 4 series still pretty bland and too big 3 series with 2 doors nothing like the concept same interior as the F30 very poor.
Then Mercedes releases the A45 AMG and that just killed BMM as they have nothing to compare to this monster M135 is too ugly M235 is still not a M car, engines need updating to at least 350bhp too compete as Mercedes is releasing the twin turbo 3lt with 350bhp plus. BMW has failed, only the M3 or M4 are any good M5 and M6 are just too big and too heavy period. I will stick to my E92 tuned twin turbo 335i M-sport for a few more years yet.
