Hopefully the next update will fix Android Auto. It was working fine until the March update and now is intermittent with Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 phones.

It works quite good with my Pixel 8 Pro. From time to time it disconnects and automatically reconnects, but I had this in other cars too.

It's unusable with my Pixel 7 (non pro). Sound drops every 2-3 minutes and full disconnects every 10. Absolute rubbish.

Past car (VW GLI) had wired AA and it was solid in the 4 years I owned the car - not a single issue.

Very disappointing.

Seems that my iDrive 9 has some SW bug that when I touch the Menu (MEDIA / NAV) or even sometime some setting.
It hangs (Black screen with only BMW logo) for quite some minutes before booting up again.

The Driving Cluster is not affected.

Hey everyone,

I am a new owner of a BMW iX1 eDrive20 since the beginning of June 2024.
I've been experiencing some software glitches with iDrive 9 (version 03/2024.40) and wanted to see
if anyone else has encountered similar problems.
Here's a breakdown of the issues:

Folding Side Mirrors: Sometimes, when I lock the car using the automatic locking feature,
the side mirrors don't fold in as expected (tried both the master and spare key).
This seems to happen occasionally.

Touchscreen Freeze: Twice in the past month, the touchscreen has become sluggish while navigating the menus
and eventually frozen completely. This happened with both the master and spare key.
Luckily, the touchscreen functioned normally again the next day.

Android Auto Connectivity: I've had trouble connecting both my phone and my wife's phone to Android Auto.
This only happened once, but we tried again on another occasion with the same result.
Interestingly, keeping one key outside the car (around 10 meters away) allowed us to connect the phone with the other key inside.

Seat Memory Issue: After entering the car, the seat and mirrors adjust to my preferred position using the memory function.
However, after a few seconds, the seat automatically reverts back to the welcome position and stays there.
This has happened three times in the past two weeks, and I've used both the master and spare key.
The only solution seems to be manually adjusting the seat again using the memory button on the door.

Critical Issue: Starting the Car: This is the most concerning problem.
Once, when I only had the spare key with me, the car wouldn't start.
The message "Key cannot be found" appeared on the screen, followed by "Bitte warten..." (German for "Please wait...").
The car remained stuck like this for 10 minutes. After leaving the car for a few minutes and trying again,
it finally started with the spare key.
It seemed that the car was still looking for the master key 10m away which was used prior.

Has anyone else experienced any of these issues?
Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!
Or should I just wait for the next OTA?

Does BMW has an official channel where you can report possible iDrive9 bugs?

Hello and welcome!

I've never had any of the issues above, but I never used the second key - just the master for safety in long trips and my Pixel 8 Pro as a primary key.

Maybe worth checking if there are any updates for the apps in the Drive Store, under manage tab and also a hard restart of the system, by holding down the Pause/Play button (volume one) for 20-30 seconds.

I've had quite regular experience with the side mirror folding when locking. Usually works with the key fob and problems mostly with the digital key.

I have this issue occasionally too but it only seems to happen when I unlock to get something and then lock without driving the car.

Reboots haven’t helped and I find it corrects the next time. It is annoying though.

I also have an iX1 with ID9.

Guys which version of BMW Maps do you have? You can check in connected drive store->manage->apps. I have 2.9.8.
But I have automatic updates activated and since yesterday I have noticed a different color scheme in maps.

Mine is the same version, but I rarely use it as AA with Waze, GMaps, YT Music is much better, so can't tell any difference. Version can be checked also in its settings (gear icon and scroll to the bottom).

Actually, I only use it for 1 time estimations of my range for long trips as its really good.

My car was in the dealer for a little over a week for Idrive9 issues and they updated to new software 7.24.30, the car was having issues with pausing songs for a few seconds so far it hasn’t happened so hopefully this fixed the idrive9 issues, I have an iPhone 13 Pro

Well after 1 day with the new update 7.2024.30 Apple CarPlay stopped working again 😡 I think it got worst than the last update because now it pauses each song more often and for a prolonged time… this is so frustrating

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and iDrive 9. It has not malfunctioned once. I play audio al the time through various apps and it has literally never skipped or pause for one second.

What I would suggest:
- Try your phone without a cover
- Try another, newer iPhone
- Ask them to replce the head unit

If you have the issue with multiple phones there is no argument on their side either.

I've had similar cases with Android Auto, but its neither the car, nor the phone. It usually happens in areas of weak mobile internet coverage (my garage, in mountain passes etc) where the cashed music data reaches it end and there is no more streaming. In such cases, maps and other apps still work and if you switch to pre-downloaded music playlists they should also work. I have such on option my YT Music and its the same also for Spotify.

With my pixel 7, I get audio.drop outs every 2-3 minutes and full AA disconnects around every 10 mins. And that's better than happened on the previous firmware for ID9 that would totally hang and I'd have to reboot the car.

Same with Pixel 8 and Pixel 7. Android Auto worked fine for us prior to the March 2024 update. I even tried the hard reset (hold button down for three soft reset cycles) and it seemed to make it worse.

Thanks! I’ve tried other phones and also the dealer hasn’t mentioned anything about the phone being the issue. I feel like they dealer would totally blame the phone if it was the issue, also I have all my songs saved in my phone so it’s not a connection issue, I tried taking the case off and nothing changed. So I’ll ask for them to replace the unit, also I just noticed a new rattle sound on the passager side soo… i don’t know at this point I’ll see if they give me a new car or try to get out of it. I escalated to BMW corporate.

They replaced my head unit. CarPlay still drops out. Won’t buy the car back. Seven months of torture. Should have gone with the XC 40. Less balls and not as fun, but….

Nope. The colors of the buildings and green parts on the map have changed.
Traffic was already visible correctly (orange or red)
