Eventually id like to go on a hunting trip after elk or moose but that probably wont happen for awhile yet. My budget i could buy this gun without even thinking about it or like i said i could buy a kimber montana although i dont want to overspend and find it is not my forte. Unless the higher end guns are that much better. As far as handguns go(to give you an idea of how i feel about different classes of weapons) i carry a taurus G2C and own 2 taurus revolvers. However i also own a kimber 1911 and a ruger SP101 along with a glock. So i wouldnt really consider myself a brand snob. If someone makes a good gun regardless of price point i’m typically interested. For now it would be primarily a range toy with field use possible later down the road.

A 1911 should be .45
I have considered getting one in 10mm though

My vote would be a Rem 700 with some really nice glass. For people not sure about whether they are making the correct choice, buying used allows one to get out and not take a big hit if it's not their cup of tea. I too feel a 1911 is synonymous with .45, but there are many out there from .22 on up. I can only assume that means the 1911 platform is a pretty good building block. |

Obviously .45 feels right. I like the 10mm, I have carried it quite a bit and put quite a bit of ammo through it. With proper springs the 1911 handles 10mm very well, but full power 10mm is a hot round, and after a day of training with it you know you weren't shooting 9mm. I have a 1911 in 9mm (springfield), I do not like shooting it. It just feels weird to me. I got into discussion about it on a gun forum, my takeaway was that the recoil pulse, and slide velocity we so different and slower that it just doesn't feel right. Part of the reason that I chose to carry a 1911 is the CA magazine limit, there isn't much of a penalty when you are limited to 10 rounds and its very easy to carry an additional single stack mag or two, but if the new ruling holds and we are allowed standard capacity mags I will reevaluate my carry gun situation. |

I had a Savage 10FP that shot great. I'm sure you can find something that works for you. |

With real 10mm ammo (most bulk/range ammo is basically .40s&w in a longer case), and even with the lighter stuff the polymer frame gets a nasty vibration. After a while its just not that enjoyable to shoot, that and you just can't compare a glock trigger to a single action 1911 trigger. For a woods gun the G20 is difficult to beat, but for shooting at the range...not so difficult to beat. Edit: If you're looking for a little comparison... I really like a 1911, I have turned into a bit of a trigger snob, and I like the feel of a metal frame, they don't transfer vibrations (if you shoot Glocks much you probably know what I mean) to the shooter like the Glocks do (in CA we just have gen3 Glocks, maybe newer ones are better?). It has been a long time since I fired my G20, I don't recall being bothered by the recoil, it has a big heavy slide to tame the 10mm. If it tells you anything the 10mm 1911 is one of my carry guns (in CA you have to qualify with and submit a list with up to 3 carry guns), and I don't bother taking the G20 out of the safe anymore. I have taken my 10mm 1911 to a class and sent hundred of rounds through it, (I did find a rough spot on the safety, but a little blood on the grip adds character). For me, I shoot for fun, and to stay proficient with my carry guns (I am WAY overdue for a range trip, the 'rona), I just don't enjoy shooting Glocks when I compare them to other guns. I have always said they are great tools, and a great value, but there are plenty of other guns that are more enjoyable to shoot. Last edited by KenB925; 08-31-2020 at 06:53 PM.. |

I have a compact 1911 in .45 and a commander sized 1911 in 9mm.
Both sit and gather dust since I got some 2011s. |

Picking up an IWI Galil ACE in 7.62x39 tomorrow, little brother to the .308 “Hebrew Hammer” I’ve already got. Pistol variety with brace, will likely put in for SBR stamp tomorrow so I can put a real side folder on it with stubby grip. I’m likely going to keep this one in my car full time. Will post pics tomorrow or Wednesday!

What trigger did you go with? The Tavor trigger was WAY better than the KelTec bullpup trigger IMHO, but obviously not as smooth as a good AR trigger.. Would be happy to improve it!

I put in a Timney. It’s still not as crisp as an ar, it just can’t be, but a major improvement.

militaryshooters.com I usually get my ammo from these guys, but like most other vendors, 5.56, 7.62 and 45 ACP are still sold out according to this site. I wish you success in restocking!
